WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Once they start receiving their mail, they get it M-F.

mazzy:  I agree with ellen. We rented an SUV when there back in 2009....special rate of $35/day.  I agree with Ellen....taxis can add up.  I saw on tv where Budget is running a special weekend day rate....worth it to search and see if you can get a car for a pretty cheap day rate.

We are not flying out until Monday night, we at least will get to spend a little time in Chicago if we can't spend more time with our SR.

Springhill Suites and Courtyard Inn are also close to Sarge's MeetandGreet....Residence Inn is just up the street too.

skyler, their first pay usually comes in after they have been there for a few weeks.  They are paid the 1st and 15th of the month (if a Navy Fed account, will come in a day earlier).

karens:  It is a good idea to book your return later because you never know....just maybe the sailors will have flights on Sunday rather than Saturday since it is a holiday weekend.  It happens sometimes!  If they do end up flying out on Saturday, then you can do some sightseeing!

Comment by karens (alumni ship 13-Div 366) on September 27, 2012 at 3:59pm

Since Veterans day is the Monday after PIR anybody else staying the weekend even knowing that if their SR "Sailor by then" is going to A school somewhere else that maybe they might have a longer liberty?  Both my older sons and daughter in law are coming and we want to make flight, car and motel reservations by this weekend.  I want to stay just in case but not sure what the chances are for seeing him longer, on the other hand, we could check out more of the area by staying longer, but lets face it, in this economy money is a consideration.

Comment by skyler(ship14 DIV 368) on September 27, 2012 at 3:58pm

I'm sorry to ask this question but would anyone know around what time our SR's will get paid during boot camp?

Comment by Juliette on September 27, 2012 at 3:22pm

Jodi, the Red Carpet Inn is only a mile from base with a shuttle. It was on the brochure that my SR sent home to me when he sent his form letter. It was one of the first hotels I had noticed - plus I called to find out. If you look at the page for Sarge's meets, it says his meet and greet is in walking distance from that hotel....so...i think i'm safe :)

Jodi, I have Sarge's number just in case. We may use his shuttle service from the airport as well. Can't beat 100 bucks roundtrip.
