WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

karis:  I am so sorry about your injured SR!  Hoping that it won't take 6-8 weeks before he can get back to training.

LaLa Ribbon Queen, please have navyknit get ahold of me as well. I got the call last night from my SR he has been injured. His PIR will be delayed by 6-8 weeks. Very disappointing I hadjust booked my room at Navy Lodge and was dealing ok with just 45 more days til PIR. Now we are in limbo and hopefully he doesn't reinjure himself and delay it more or wrse yet he can't stay in the Navy.

Markelle, Try using a search engine like Orbitz or Expedia and see what you can find. The expense may be coming from AAA, I kind of rooted around a bit and found full size cars for $260 and under. Just check around a little bit and see what you can find.

Also look directly at Alamo, Budget, Thrifty and Dollar to see what they have.

Comment by KwajMom on September 25, 2012 at 3:37am

Markelle - If you are flying into O'Hare, Thrifty has decent rates.  I'm picking up a Dodge Avenger for 5 days for $262.  Granted, everything depends of the model.  There are cheaper if you don't need much room.  I will have 4 and the day with my SR we will probably be a bit "cozy" in the car.

Comment by ellen0502 on September 25, 2012 at 2:50am

Markelle, Check into Avis and Budget for car rental, $380 seems a little on the high side. We rented directly through Avis and only paid $189 for five days.

I have some 6550 miles of scenery between me and my SR.  LOL

Hi Everyone, This site is wonderfull. I am so glad that it's here. My SR is in ship 14 div 368. Southwest sounds like a good airline to use. We will be coming from Colorado and, knock on wood, hope its not going to be snowing. I cant wait to hear from my daughter and if all is going good with her. I have set up time off from work so far and started looking at hotels.

Comment by TUSmom on September 25, 2012 at 12:49am
We decided to fly Southwest to Milwaukee, I've booked our flight with peace of mind knowing we can change it with no penalties. I am renting a car from the SW website also, 5 days totaled $108, which was much cheaper than renting at O'Hare. The drives a little further but I'm coming from Tucskn, AZ so a change of scenery is always nice. Cant wait until PIR, I am so excited.
