Was wondering how long people are planning to stay for Grad is there SR is staying at GL for A school. Are people leaving Sunday or staying thru until Monday?
Feel better, FTLW! :-)
Yes, that is Lala's ribbon link. You all will not be disappointed if ordering PIR ribbons from her. They are wonderful, priced right, and she gets them to you quickly!
Good Morning all!
Here is a link for PIR ribbons that I found on another N4M's site. http://www.uniquememorymakers.com/Navy-PIR-Ribbons-with-Name-Navy-a...
Here is a PAGE on:
What ARE They Doing in Boot Camp? Synopsis, Videos and a Day-by-Day...
(clickable link)
When booking for your stay...if at all possible...try to stay until Sunday...late. That is if time and funds permit.
Those new Sailors that will be attending A school in Gl will have weekend Liberty (no overnights though).
For those flying out to A schools elsewhere...the "norm" is that the Navy tries to send them the day after PIR...but they fly commercial (occasionally there is a charter flight if there is a lot going to one place...more rare though)...so this depends on flight avavilability. We do see some PIR's where they end up flying our on Sunday.
This happened to me as my sons PIR was on a Thursday on Memorial Day Weekend. I was flying over on Tuesday and he called to say that he was not leaving on Friday as planned but would leave on Sunday. So it can happen last minute. The plan is the day after PIR...but they get their orders just before PIR (sometimes sooner).
I had booked through until Sunday based on the advice of my vet moms (diannep, LaLa, Betsy, JessicaB). I just figured I would sight see or hang out and rest if it went as the original plan.
Again time and funds...this isn't meant to make anyone feel bad if that is not available to them. :-)
As far as mail goes...KwajMom is correct...no packages, musical cards, whole magazines or newspapers. Some RDc's do not even like the clippings...some don't mind...but you won't know until you send them What we sugegst is that you just write down scores and such for them or photocopy it onto the back of the letter. All "bulky" mail will have to be opened in front of an RDC. All photographs will be inspected for content.
Cards are okay...I would stay from glitter though...they have Compartment Inspections and glitter is so messy and the littlest piece can find it's way somewhere and then shine like a beacon! White envelopes are best but colored should be fine. Stickers, kiss marks will draw attention...ahhh, but then some may not mind as it is from their loved one! LOL
There is the possibility of your recruit writing home requesting contacts, make up for pictures/PIR...it they ask then it is okay to send...if they don't I would not. Usually, when they specifically ask (letter or call) then they have recieved permission from their RDC's to recieve thses items. Travel sized items in a clearly marked box (suggest putting liquid items in a ziploc). The pre-paid ones...(ugh the name escapes me right now...and I sent a LOT when hubby was deployed...so it must be the sickies!)...are good...small. It will be opened in front of an RDC.
I have actually seen early on where a recruit has asked for a toothbrush ...struck me as odd...and I asked if they were using there's for there boots or head duty! I know one answer was their boots. So they must have been told to get one from home, since they used their'sfor something else!
Dear Group,
Sorry I have not been on...down with a bad cold .
But I wanted to at least give you a few more Pages to read...I know you are in great hands with the other vet moms...they are the best!
Hang in there...I know you are missing your recruits and I have been able to read on phone...and pray for all of you!
@MarkelleGohr - My son is ship 03 Div 370. We've booked a room at Residence Inn Chicago Waukegan/Gurnee specifically because it is more of a "home" atmosphere with a sofa and a kitchen. While some of us will be at PIR the rest will stay at the hotel and we will bring our son back.
