OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

diannep I do not think any battlestations were done last night, but still praying for all of them...and ever so proud!

Comment by diannep on November 5, 2012 at 9:28am

Not sure if anyone did BattleStations last night.  With only 4 divisions left to finish, they wouldn't have needed to go last night, but you never know.  They could actually "finish up" this PIR group's Battlestations in one night, but may do it in two nights.

Good Morning All!

Thanks ellen0502 and Cor for the information on sailors staying at GL. Like I said I thought he was shipping out so I didn't really pay attention. My bad!!  My son (PIR 8/31) was always looking at his watch when it got close to time for him to be back at the base and I know he wanted to get back well before he was due. He was supposed to ship out the next day but due to the hurricane near Fla we got to spend an extra day with him. What a delight that was.

If your sailor is staying in GL and moving to the TSC side after PIR.

On Friday you will have about an hour with them (might be less) after PIR before they must return to their ship to pack up and move to the TSC on the other side to check in. This process can take several hours, keep your phone handy so they can reach you when they are ready to leave.

The calls that they can leave can  be anywhere from about 2:30pm to 5pm (this can even vary). You will meet them at the main gate which is next to the visitors center. They will have to be back to their ship sometime between 8pm and 10pm. THEY CANNOT BE LATE.

Keep your gate pass from PIR, you may be able to use it to drive them back to their ship Friday night.

On Sat and Sun they should also have liberty from approx 6am to 10pm (these times can vary). You will again meet them at the main gate, you must go back to the ship with your sailor on Sat and Sun and check them out. Again, your gate pass may allow you to drive them back to check out (they must be with you to drive on to base). If your gate pass is not allowed you must walk back with them, it is a looooong walk so be prepared.

When they return at night the same person who checks them out must be the one to check them in (this doesn't always hold true, but better safe than sorry). If your gate pass works, perfect, if not you are walking. :) Allow plenty of time for them to get back to their ship, if they are late (and on time is late) their liberty can be taken away from them.

If you can go to the visitor center early (before they call), and weather permitting for you and your sailor, it is fun to hear the new sailors cadence coming from the back of the base to the gate, and then watch them march up the street for liberty. When you receive your call to come get them and are already at the gate, the anticipation as to whether it is yours sailors group, that you hear in the distance, is almost as good as waiting for that door to open at PIR.

Your sailor will have been given all the "rules" he/she must follow before he/she is allowed to leave. Gentle reminders like cover (hat) off inside, and cover on outside if they forget etc. may help them relax a little bit.

They have been watched day and night for 8-10 weeks and some of your sailors may seem a little paranoid (zombie like) when they first get out into the "real world". They are told that they are still being watched on liberty, and they could be,  just reassure them they are doing ok. If it does happen with your sailor, don't worry, they are still in there. they just need a couple hours of freedom for it to pass.

Giggling

Also, don't be surprised if they seem to sleep in the car, on the train, as soon as they sit down in the hotel, they have been running on little sleep for a long time.

You all are in for a great weekend, and the hug after PIR is the best!!!!!

Calirose - so happy that now you know.  My son is in 366 also.  I know his call to me was just seconds on Friday.  He didn't explain what happened.  I guess I'll find out Friday.    I know they are trying to build then up, but I wish they would think of the Moms just once.

diannep - yes my daughter is remaining in GL for A School.

Jodi-alum - I read somewhere on the site and my daughter confirmed that if they are staying in GL for A School that they will have a little while with us immediately after PIR and then they have to check in which may take the remainder of the afternoon.  She will then be able to go to dinner with us.  But Sat/Sun she will have day liberty through 7 to 9 pm.

ali63, if you mean they are moving to another ship there in boot camp then they would continue to get the letters even if they have the old address on them. If you are talking about writing them once in A-school they will all be going to different places and the students would have to get correspondence from each Sailor after they finish boot camp to know where to continue writing them. If they are looking for new recruits to write to then you may want to join new PIR groups and ask those moms to let you know of any recruits who are not receiving letters. There is a guy on this site named Ronnie who does that and connects the recruits with people who want to write. If you need his contact info let me know and I will get it to you.

Just got phone call from one of the kids in div 367 to pass message to me regarding my son telling me to bring his cell, laptop, ipod and black nike socks to graduation THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!  Div 366 can't make phone calls but I did ask to confirm that he is graduating and he is. Thank you to everyone who supported me.  I will see everyone at PIR.  Don't know why lost phone privilages but at this point I don't care, just glad he will be graduating.

I know that one of the veteran moms posted the "schedule" for the sailors that are staying at GL for school but I didn't read it carefully because I thought my sailor would ship out for Groton after bootcamp. Now I've learned he's staying at GL for at least 7 weeks (or it could be 14, he's told me both ways lol) so now I need that info. Where can I find it?

I'm putting this up here, hoping that a RDC will get this request to the correct person.  My friend is a teacher at North Mecklenburg High School, in Huntersville NC.  One of her classes wrote mulitple times to a few SRs that weren't receiving any mail. Now that the SRs/Sailors will be moving the students would like to continue to write them - the students have become attached and are really bummed to "lose" them.  The SRs/Sailors are from Ship 14 Div 367. I'll be watching my email for any response - thanks for all you do!!!
