madala: They can't write anything else in the form letter other than the small space where they can write just a couple of sentences. Some sneak comments on the flaps of the "box" but most don't. That first real letter will be wonderful!
Good Morning all!
There is the possibility of you receiving a phone call from your SR (Seaman Recruit) during the first one to two weeks after their arrival for Security Clearance info. I received mine one week after my son arrived at RTC. Had no idea it would come that fast. I'd only really been on the site for a week or two, so I had NOTHING ready! So... if your Recruit has a rating that requires security clearance information...800 Divisions, IT's, CTI's CTT's Nukes, AT's (the list goes on!), anyone that handles confidential info...have a list of references by the phone.
This is a short business call and is monitored. No time for chit chat...but once in a great while the person monitoring the call allows a few extra minutes.
The area code for GL is "847". My security clearance call, the caller ID said "US GOVERNMENT". We have also had "PAY PHONE" reported and then area codes for the surrounding areas...so answer all...and just get rid of those telemarketers!
For all the new members I will be posting this from time to tme in the beginning weeks.
Hello Everyone.
Safety for your SR (future Sailor) and you!
Sailors LAST names are not allowed anywhere on this site. If your last name is different from your sailors it is still not recommended. This site is publicly viewable...anyone can read the public pages.
FIRST names are allowed but I, and some of the other “veteran” moms, will most often advise you not to use them. So, let’s say you use your last name in your N4M name, post a picture of your SR...call him/her by their first name...it makes it very easy to match them up with you while in Boot Camp.
SR=Seaman Recruit...this is a good way to refer to your loved one while they are in BC.
Why does that matter? Your SR's are trying to get through BC with as little undue attention as possible. "Fly under the radar", so to speak. So...Less is best!
The MOST important reason for being discreet is OPSEC-OPerational SECurity. This is a way of life for us now. It will be for your Sailors career and for some of them, even more so, depending on their individual security clearance. We keep our PIR groups public so that anyone may join and feel welcome. We would rather help you to learn about what is okay to say and what is not on the internet...closed groups or open ones. Even in face-to-face relationships I don't give specifics about my husband or sons military life.

Congrats to those who recieved their Form Letters today!
Keep them in a safe place. There is a post a couple of pages back about the Letter.
Chris'smom - I am sorry to hear about this...friending you. I see you joined Ship 5 group. Good. That will be the Ship he will have been moved to.
Depending on what it is (if you see this you do not have to post what it is publicly,k?)...it may be possible for him to fight the seperation, get a waiver and stay...but it will mean appealing.
I have seen several recruits fight seperation and stay. Just had one the other day. It does not happen all the time on here...percentage is low...and depends on the case...but it does happen.
also got my form letter today, no box yet.. the letter was in pencil and was her handwriting
Welcome back williby :-) It is great to see you here again. There have been several moms recently who are here for the second time and we are all glad to have you.
Welcome back, williby! How is your sailor doing?
So sorry, Chris'Mom. That really stinks....seems so very unfair. I know your SR must be devastated....but hoping that there is still a way for him to come back in later.
Hello, Glad to be back on Navy for Moms it was a big help with our first Son that was a year ago,Our second Son left 9/11 ship3 Div 369,received form letter yesterday. It does get easier MoMs.
yeah, they could need waivers for a childhood illness, some type of medication that was taken years ago, I believe they need a waiver if they are allergic to anything and they need one for all tattoos. It is a lot of paperwork and can be very stressful to try and get all the information. Hopefully it will all get worked out.
