OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

They can need a waiver for tatooes also. My son tried to join the Marines and the recruiter told him he would have to get a waivers because he had to many showing down below his sleeves and also when he went in the navy he had a tatoo with crown and it couldn't have  (Im not sure)  five points on the crown but whatever we had to add another point on the crown so he can be approve to join

Ok, still confused.  What kind of things would they need waivers for?

Comment by ProudStepMom (Ship 11 DIV 364) on September 20, 2012 at 7:28pm

Oh we're too aware of the waiver process.. we spent months jumping through hoops to get one for our Nick, denied twice and almost gave up but just kept pushing through.  But your example is helpful.. sometimes things aren't remembered.

Chris, I am so sorry for your SR.  I don't understand how this wasn't caught when he got there on the 11th.?  I am so new at this I thought that once they got to BC other than a medical problem or they were not passing they were OK.

Comment by KwajMom on September 20, 2012 at 7:17pm

ProudStepMom - Waivers are needed for any number of things.  It could be for something as simple as a hairline fracture of the pinky finger back when the SR was 8 years old.  In those cases, it's really hard for people to remember those types of things, yet the military seems to find these things out.  All we can do is support Chris'sMom and pray that she will find the help she & her son needs to straighten all this out.  Our prayers are with you Chris'sMom.

So sorry Chris'sMom - very curious to hear what he needs the waiver for.. and why it wasn't determined beforehand. Hang in there..

I am so sorry Chris'sMom, I hope they can get it worked out. You both are in my thoughts and prayers.

Comment by KwajMom on September 20, 2012 at 6:41pm

Chris'sMom - I am so sorry.  Any waivers needed should be determined at the recruiter's office when he first made his inquiry.  If it's not done, it is usually caught at MEPs when he went to start DEP process.  To get this far and be sent home is rotten.  Unfortunately, he will have to get the waiver at home and try again.  It all depends on what the waiver is needed for.  If it's medical, you may have a better chance.  They will not give him a waiver while at RTC.  That had to be done before he got there.  If the recruiter knew of the situation but claims that he didn't know a waiver was needed, then that is total BS.  He was trained and he knows exactly what is needed, as did his CO at the recruiter's office.  If he didn't know of the situation, that's different.

I received a message today from my SR saying he will be sent home because a waiver was not done that should have been done. His recruiter feels awful but states he did not know it needed done and now he can do nothing. I can't get a hold of my SR. I have heard from people there should be people I can contact that can help him so that the waiver can get done in GL and he wont have to return and reenlist. Can anyone help me with this??
