For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

You just don't want to send them something that draws too much attention or has something you wouldn't want others to read in it. I read that they might pick them up in a line separate from the letters. There's a chance they have to open it in front of the RDC and read it out loud. People have posted different things. I think you probably read to never send a card with sound. They're allowed but it could cause them a lot of grief so it's "forbidden" as a general consensus from family/friends.

I thought I read somewhere that our SR were not allowed to receive cards. I would like to send one for his birthday (and for Halloween). Like Sundown said, would have to mail it off today since we are in California as well.

Comment by diannep on October 27, 2012 at 10:05am: Ladies, RTC is admitting people for PIR strictly by the names on the guest list submitted by your sailors. The SRs get to update this probably next week. If a name is not on there, you will not be denied entrance onto the base. You will be told to return to your car. So, no extras allowed in anymore into PIRs.

This policy was enforced yesterday at that PIR (only 7 divisions in it...small PIR group). One sailor had updated his list before PIR and removed his 15 yr old brother's name...the mom thinks because he thought that all 16 yrs old and under didn't have to be on the list (it is actually those 12 and under who don't have to be on the list). So, he was denied entry, and therefore, the dad (who was initially denied entry because they didn't see his name on the list...but it was there!)...stayed back with his son and missed his older son's PIR too. Very very sad....but tightens security on the base and leaves the guest choice totally up to the sailor.

We are hoping that your extras will still go to Great Lakes and hang out with their sailors after PIR!
