WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Wherever I sit at PIR I DONT want my SR to see me lol! I want to be able to see him, but be hidden from him! I think the suspense is more fun plus I want it to be a total surprise when I finally see him on the floor! It sounds more exciting to me lol!

I am on a fixed income, and the least expensive for what I was looking for is Waukegan Super 8 (847)249-2388. They offer shuttle & continental breakfast. If you don't really care about the continental breakfast, Motel 6 Waukegan offers shuttle only, I got both these motels numbers in the pamphet sent in the PIR info letter. Hope that is some help.

Anyone have any suggestions on a cheap place to stay for PIR?

Comment by diannep on October 19, 2012 at 9:02pm

Well, actually there are division sections that you can sit in.  Your division will be right in front of you then.

It is so funny to see how different people prefer to sit in different places at PIR. We sat in the lower section about half way to the top of that section and had wonderful seat and a fantastic view. I wouldn't have changed a thing even if I could. My ex and his wife got there later and had to sit in the balcony and they said they couldn't see her good at all. Which is really sad because she was up front by the mic singing in the choir. All the pics they took had railing in them and it made me so glad I sat where I did and that I got there early enough to get a good seat. I guess some like the balcony and others like the lower section :-) Just like some like to drive and some like the shuttle.

Cindi  I have been sending envelopes for weeks as my SRs got wet and were all stuck together.  I put one in with each letter I mail and last week started sending 2 sheets of paper with each letter because he ran out.  By sending a small amt each day there is no bulk and still just need one stamp for each letter.

Just to add a little to Jodi's post with a few pics if you like... :-)

You can see the balcony above the flags on the right:

Okay...the pic above… See the yellow lines? Those start off to the left at the big garage door that opens to let your Sailors in. They'll come in in order of their Divisions and march all the way to the other end and make a U-ee, march back and then line up in formation by division. See the closest set of stacked chairs? That is where the first Division will stand…then it goes on down the line. The 900 Div is in the middle I believe (they come in after...a space is left for them) I believe the 800 Divisions march in last…but don’t quote me on that!

When you come into the Hall you will see Sailors on the floor standing next to Division markers. This is where your Division will be standing for PIR. You should sit in the stands in front of the marker. The markers are positioned so that when you sit in the stands your Division is a little bit to the right of you. There is also seating upstairs in the balcony.

Here is another pic of a Division Marker:

...you can see the Garage Door Entrance open on the left side of the pic...this was before the ceremony. The Divison markers are removed before the ceremony.
