MONKEYSMOMSHIP4 - PIR is indoors, but it can get very cold in there. I was HOT in May but IDK, I'm wierd! Most of the reports are ...cold. So it is best to layer. The seating is metal bleachers so I brought a poncho to either wrap up in or sit on. I don't know about you all, but when my tush gets cold...brrrrr all over!
Shoes - Comfortable is best. If you are used to heels then yu should be fine. Some wear walking shoes and change them out once in the PIR Hall.
Walking - It is about 300 ft from Gate 8 to the North end (closest to the gate) of the PIR hall...double that or more to the south end where the Visitors Center/Parking Garage is. From the PIR Hall it is about 600+ feet to the NEX/Photo Lab etc. across the Base.
Cell Phones - Are not allowed to be taken back to RTC. No civilian items actually, so you may give it to him at the Airport if you go to see him off. Otherwise you will have to mail it to him or possibly ask another mom to give it to him. Many help each other out this way!
Most commands allow cell phones right off the bat, each is different. Your SR can make the decision...but bring it ither way since it is small and easy to take back home with you.
Lulovesjosh - mine originally wanted to do active, but he respected my wishes when I said it wasn't exactly the lifestyle I was looking for. He really didn't start bugging me about the Navy till a year into our relationship. I think he always had it in the back of his mind, but never really pushed for it until we were together for a while. I just think it takes a certain type of person to be cut out for the active life style. I like the idea of moving to where he is - especially if its in a new area, it gives you the chance to travel and see the world, but I certainly wouldn't be able to deal with the never ending time apart. Maybe I'm just weak, i dont know! You deserve plenty for supporting his decision!
Soupercook - TY on the "reminder" to make one of hubby's faves for Christmas! RUM balls. I made a batch of these one year...rolled them in chocolate jimmies and stored them in the fridge. He LOVED them! Uh, so did I! LOL
I mailed my son Brownies and Rice Krispie Treats in A school. I bet you make something wonderful to send her! Just make sure to send food items in sealed containers. Uh, "creatures" can be a problem on the bases so they have strict rules on keeping food in their rooms.
I'm thankful that my fiance choose the reserves path instead of active. Many props to the gfs/wives who have their sailors going full time. I'm just happy knowing that he'll be home soon enough, and we'll be able to actually have a semi-normal life, with of course the forever risk of a possible deployment....nonetheless, I still feel blessed.
Jodi - THANK YOU for helping out so much!!!!
Sorry to interupt "the flow"...just a little "business".
FIRST no one has done anything wrong...this is just an FYI as it happened on another GROUP earlier today. Just looking out for you and your recruits. :-)
As a refresher I am going to repost the link to the PAGE for:
N4M’s Community Guidelines and OPSEC
OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".
Anndrya, you 're on the right path. You will be fine, Navy Men need strong, supportive women in their life and if he knew how you have handled being away from him, and how supportive you have been, he would beam with pride, but I am sure in his heart he knows that. Yo go girl!
well yes of course it natural to feel loney and things out of place definitely! im not saying that. just saying to keep positive thoughts! =) and we gotta try our best to stay stong you want them to know they got a STRONG women by thier side =) we got this
yes Jodi I will be packing up my life in sacramento and going with him =)
Well, I wish both of you the best. It will be a hard road but I'm sure you are prepared for that. It won't be long until you will get to give them BIG hugs.
