For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on October 16, 2012 at 6:57pm: Jenny it is definitely worth going to PIR. It is amazing and you will never forget it and you will be so glad you went. Did you or his mom not get the form letter either? If not you will have to ask him when he calls again for the password if you plan to drive onto the base. He is the only one who can give it to you. Maybe he donated all his clothes since you didn't get the box. Did he take a phone with him? If so then he probably sent it back to someone because they won't let them keep it there.

TexasMom, they can't wear civilian clothes until they phase up. It is different amount of time depending on the A-school and every A-school I have heard of allows them to have their cell phones. They can only use it at certain times and certain places. Most Sailors have their cell phone on the first day of A-school unless they have to wait for it to be mailed to them. they can even buy one on the A-school base as soon as they get there. That is what my Sailor did because she didn't want to wait on hers to be mailed. She bought a cheap tract phone.

His mother asked me to join since she doesn't do much on the Internet. I'm trying to learn as much as I can! We haven't gotten a box from him or anything...I have talked to my SR last Wednesday and waiting for tomorrow, hopefully. Does anyone know about hospital corpsmans' A school? He says he can come home for the holidays but I'm not so sure. I'm also wondering if its worth going to their PIR on the 9th...

I don't want to be driving 40 mins to O'Hare almost, then another hour up to Milwaukee...kind of annoying. I guess I'll just have to ship it to him...

Comment by diannep on October 16, 2012 at 3:45pm: They usually don't fly out that early, but will be bussed out there before then to wait for flights. That is why I said you could actually meet up with him there and still make your own flight.

No, no way to meet him off base. They are on the busses!

Do they sometimes send them out on flights super early in the the AM...like maybe 3, 4am? I guess it's impossible to meet him right off base before he heads out to give it to him?

If his flight happens to leave very early in the morning, maybe you can still meet him there for a while, give him these things, and then head to Milwaukee for your flight....or....

you can find someone who is going there who can give them to him.

If both of those ideas fail, you can mail them once he arrives and gives you an address!
