Ok - quick question, not to interrupt your insurance chat - but what's the situation with after PIR and giving them stuff like their cell phone and laptop? My fiance is stationed in Pensacola FL for A School, so most likely he's going to fly out Saturday - problem is - my flight leaves Saturday too, around noon, and I'm not flying out of O'Hare...I'm flying out of Milwaukee...so meeting him half way at the airport seems impossible to get that stuff to him - I'm pretty much assuming he's not permitted to have that stuff on base when he returns back after liberty on Friday - thoughts, suggestions? I guess I'll just have to ship that stuff to him in FL? (I really would love if he at least had his phone)...what to do?
Mary, sometimes they take pictures and post them on RTC FB, but not always (capping ceremony). When they used to have the TRIVIA game on RTC FB on Tuesdays, the ladies in the division that won sometimes would get to see a pik of the capping ceremony of their division....a very special treat!
mrs.jane.rad: At the top of this page, click on the link under the yellow smiley faces. This takes you to the MeetandGreet page. On there, you will see that there are 3 different MeetandGreets. All are family friends (bring the kids!) but SARGE's will have the most info for you...and I have heard the food he provides (out of his own pocket but he does accept any donations!) is great.
I've kept my health insurance while my husband is in boot camp and plan to make the switch to Tri-Care at the start of the year. Right now I am 27 and paying for Cobra, so I could not add myself back to the plan if something happened. Even though I'm not worried, I figure it's like bringing an umbrella on gray days- which always seems to make it sunny out.
Hello, 23 days left! Thank goodness!! I am so excited to meet all of you! Does anyone know what the meet and greets are? Is there more than one for this PIR?
I have tried so hard to be strong, positive and not loose it while he is in bootcamp because I promised my SR I would (have not always succeeded in that, if Lucky could talk she would tell everyone that!) but think as this gets closer its harder not to tear up just thinking about how amazing these young men and women are, what they are willing to do for all of us. How fortunate are we to be able to claim them as our children! Think I need lots of tissues at PIR.
I was just telling a co-worker this morning I wish I could see the capping ceremony as well. I get a lump in my throat just thinking about it. Do they take pictures? My SR is really looking forward to BattleStations.

karens: My hubby (my sons' father) passed away in 2001. Sons were 15 and 17 at the time, so it has been just the 3 of us since then. Although my sons are very different from one another, there is a family bond there. My older son was tearing up during most of the PIR ceremony...I was a basket case from the moment I walked into the PIR Hall, but was kind of surprised to see how emotional he got....but I'm sure it was like your son seeing his baby brother at MEPS. Happy and proud tears!
The capping ceremony after they finish BattleStations is very emotional for them. They trade their RECRUIT ballcap for their NAVY ballcap....they have been up for over 24 hours by that time, doing BattleStations for the past 12 hours....and they are now sailors, each presented this honor by their superiors. It is a very moving ceremony for them....
Pa told me that when he is home on leave if he uses my car and there is a problem he is covered due to having permission to use my car, so I dropped his auto ins.
Diannep, I am excited my 30 year old is coming with me, after my divorce he was the male role model for my SR, he is so proud of his baby brother, the first time I ever saw him cry since he was little was when he watched our SR swear in at MEPS. so I am sure he will tear up at PIR. Our SR is leaving the next day for NUKE in SC but we will be able to spend some time with him at the airport, and then spend some time sightseeing before we leave Sunday am. SOOOO EXCITED, will be even more excited when we get the "I'm a Sailor" call, wish I could see all of their proud faces when they have the capping ceremony but sure they know we are with them in our hearts, prayers, support and love.
WOW! FL Driving laws are strict!
