WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Oh Wow, I didn't even think about the car insurance.  My rates will go way down.

I don't think I'm too old, my oldest two sons think that!  My oldest told me I have to behave myself because he has the nursing home on speed dial!

Comment by Mary123Sons on October 16, 2012 at 9:19am

karens - ROFL, I'm 54 and I think I am too old, but will have to suck it up and do it anyway.  My oldest is 23, but is at BC as well.  He graduates 11/30, so I'll have to do this twice.  At least the second time I'll know what to expect.  My 17 year old will be with me for moral support.

Mary123...I know I have taken mine off our car insurance.  I spoke with our agent and he suggested it as well, so I cant imagine health insurance is any different.

My middle son who is 30, is coming with me, so he is driving the rental car, apparently at 57 I am too old to go by myself and drive around Chicago!  He may be right since the GPS they got me I still can't use, but I've been on some really cool "Road Trips" by being lost!

Comment by Mary123Sons on October 16, 2012 at 8:58am

Thanks for the input.  I think I'll keep mine on my health care just through graduation.  I agree with the five wonderful words.  I'm getting so excited, but still haven't decided if I want to rent a car.  The thought of driving around Chicago and surrounding area does not excite me.  I'm from a smallish, but growing town in Texas.  15 cars at a redlight and we have congestion.

Comment by karens (alumni ship 13-Div 366) on October 16, 2012 at 8:48am

diannep, those five words, 'THEY'RE ALMOST THERE, LADIES" are the sweetest sound to keep saying out loud, I am so proud of all of them, and us!

Comment by diannep on October 16, 2012 at 8:42am

Hmmm....not sure what happens if they are discharged during bootcamp with Tri Care...but my "guess" is that they would have coverage until the end of that month and then COBRA?  If anyone runs into this situation (hopefully not), you can call the Public Affairs Office  847 688 2405 to verify.

Comment by diannep on October 16, 2012 at 8:41am

Yes, Calirose:  They have medical coverage once in bootcamp.  Tri-Care.

BattleStations for this group will start the week of Oct 28th (we can't be more specific here...no dates allowed on these pages, only private messaged).  They will continue during PIR week.  Please be asking your SRs when their division will have them.  Friend Request/private message the date to me please since I will keep a schedule.  They're almost there, ladies!

I took my son off, according to his recruiter he was covered as of the day he left, but never thought what would happen if he had been sent home. Does anyone know the answer?  Wish I had thought of that!
