WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

So its a good possibility/probability that they will have liberty on Monday for Veterans day (Yes I understand its really Sunday) But it is observed on Monday.

True.  If you take the shuttles, they bypass the car lines.  We took the shuttle and it was wonderful.  We were on the 6:30 shuttle....in the PIR Hall by a little after 7 a.m.  Still plenty of seating available, but a good number of people there already.

I got a letter today, my son said he was unable to call last Thursday when others were calling because he had all of his wisdom teeth pulled, poor guy.  He said he should be able to call soon so I am waiting patiently :)

PIR is on FRIDAY the 9th for this TG.

I am going to remove that from my previous post as I dont want to cause confusion. We were discussing Liberty that weekend.

Sherri that is a question is it better to take the shuttle? Also will graduation be on a Thurs. Is this a last minute possibility. I am planing my flight this weekend. Arrive Thurs, Depart Sat. This uncertainty is really stressful.

Comment by SherBear Nuke Mom (ET) on October 11, 2012 at 6:52pm

did I read on here that if you do use a shuttle for transportation to PIR, they don't have to wait in line to get in with all of the other cars or am I crazy?

Beamer835 - They do, but since Veteran's day is a Federal Holiday the nation has to have a "recognizable" day of remembrance for it so it will be Monday the 12th (banks closed etc.).

Last years PIR was on the 10th, Thursday, as the 11th fell on Friday. So, I think all had it for Liberty. We will have to wait and see if they release something about it for the Great Lakes "A" school Sailors or as it comes down to the wire nearer PIR. :-( You could also maybe ask on the TSC GL FB page.

Same scenario as far as those flying out to their "A" schools. It IS possible with ANY PIR (though not the norm)  for those flying out to their "A" school to  leave on Sunday instead of Saturday. The "norm" is that they fly out the day after PIR,but the possibility "rasises" when there is a Federal Holiday on the Monday following (this happened to me) and also with the larger PIR groups...and uhh, if the "A" schools are "ready" for them...LOL.

They fly commercial so it is also based on flight availibility as well.

So if possible plan for extra time. Finances and schedules are always a factor. I planned for the possibility (I booked through until Sunday based on the advice of my veteran moms!) and it happened. I was going on him leaving Friday and he called on the Tuesday as I was flying over to let me know that he would not leave until Sunday (we had a Thursday PIR). many do not get their orders until a couple of days before PIR. Some as early as a week befroe.

Be prepared, be flexible, be courageous (Semper Fortis - the Navy's unofficial motto)
