For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on October 8, 2012 at 10:21pm: Ok, correction: Forgot that you live in Chicago! So you could forgo the Friday night hotel and go back home, but be sure to go to the airport to wait with your sailor on Sat.

Even if your sailor is staying in GL for A School, you could go over each day to meet him and save the hotel $$.

Is your sailor flying out to A School? You would want to meet him at the airport on Saturday in that case to wait with him for his flight, right?

If your sailor will be staying in GL for A School, they have daytime liberty PIR Day, Sat, and Sun.

Some give watches (black and silver only, no gold-that is for officers), some buy them new phones, laptops, etc. Some give them a NEX gift card or another type of gift card to get what they like when they get to A School. It is totally up to you. My sailor wanted nothing....said our trip to see him graduate was his gift! :-)

Comment by Sundown on October 8, 2012 at 3:05pm: Good Monday! I got my first letter from my SR this weekend!!! Still no call but I am happy! I It was really hard seeing all of you getting letters and phone calls. I guess this site has its ups and downs. My hubsand said stop looking at the website if it makes you cry but i told him I miss my SR and this is my only lifeline to news.

My SR is happy! He is a division leader and doing great with his PT. He says there is little time to study but he is doing good.
