WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Wanted to thank you FTLW regarding your post yesterday on venting.  It's hard enough knowing that my SR is at boot camp with the thought that some days he is doing good and somedays might be struggling with a multitude of things such as fatigue, injuries or just plain old homesickness and not only do they need to be built up every chance we get but we also need to build up each other so thanks for the reminder.

Good Afternoon everyone!!! I hope you all are having a great day!!!

Love the "drawers" story, ellen.  Too funny!  He probably loved telling his buddies later on about that!

Comment by diannep on October 6, 2012 at 9:27am

I agree with ellen....they will have their hands full with their backpacks, seabags, and garment bags, so best to incorporate any other items into these 3 pieces.

Another idea, Soupercook, would be to bring her packed bag up for PIR and let her go through it and see what she wants to take.  You can take the rest home, and should have some space in there to pack any "extras" that you may have bought after PIR!  Now, if she is flying out to A School, you can meet her at the airport with those items...she hopefully can fit them into her existing luggage.  If she is going over to GL A School, she can just carry them over there after she returns from liberty.

Good Morning All!

Comment by ellen0502 on October 6, 2012 at 2:37am

Soupercook, she will be be able to take civies with her to A School, but she will not be able to wear them until she phases up, and that can take up to three weeks.

She will also be informed as to what civies are acceptable. No plain t-shirts that are white, blue, or black (that look blue). For lack of better words, those colors would be considered "underwear" if not printed. No jeans that the pant leg touches the ground (fraying not allowed) etc.

I recommend that you ask her what clothes she wants you to bring her as PIR gets closer. Her wants may have changed, and what she "can" have may be different than what she has packed.

My son also set aside clothes for me to bring him, and ended up only wanting one pair of his jeans, two of his t-shirts, one of his polo shirts and boxers, boxers, boxers.

Another thing to remember is they will be carrying everything they have. They will already have their duffel bag, their backpack and their garment bag for uniforms. Adding another bag to the mix may not be an option.

No reason to apologize FTLW!!!!
