Here's a question for all you ladies out there. Do we want to try and plan a M&G for the entire PIR 11/12 group or have little M&G's specific to our Ship/Divs?

Just looking for thoughts and ideas.

@Devin's Mom - Yeah on getting the form letter! I am hoping mine comes today. Not so much for the date anymore, we know that, but to see who my son put on the list for PIR and to see what little note he left at the bottom.

Thats what I say also. For even a 10 taxi, it is worth it to me to just drive it. Yeah you wait to get out... so you have your Sailor to talk to. It is crazy and then to think that you could end up so far away in another hotel. That drive could be crazy at night. I loved being so close. I felt like I had all 4 of my kids right there, even though 1 I could not see at all. Just so super close and like I said decent hotel.

We stayed at the Navy Lodge when our daughter had PIR and there were people there getting into a taxi/van. A lot of the taxis there have mini vans with several seats. So if you have several in your group you may want to call a taxi. We drove up from NC and took our car onto the base. It wasn't a problem at all. We got in line at 6:45 (and there was a line) we were on base, parked, and weaved through the line, checked in and in the ceremony hall in less than an hour. For me if I had a car there I would drive to the base. My future son-in-law is in boot camp now and we will be staying at the Navy Lodge again.

Ladies I wanted to tell you, the Navy lodge is right down the st from here you pick your recruit up and drop off in the eve. It is on Buckley and this is the RD you come in on. It is a decent and clean hotel. Also price is outstanding. 65.00 a night with no tax. However there is no shuttle service to the base like other hotels. again much closer for pick up and drop off though.

We stayed there this past weekend and it was very nice front desk was great, mini store right down the st. in the residential area of base (base housing area) so basically quiet also.

It literally took me like 3 mins to get my daughter back to the main gate. They have to be back on base by 9 for muster so you really want to make sure they are there by 8-815 since they will walk pretty far and it will be cold so you want to give them time. You can wait with them if you go back early in the chapel parking lot, this way you can visit a bit longer. However with traffic and getting Id checked you want to make sure you leave early enough. They really only check the Sailor ID unless they are being particularly cautious at the time.

HI! My son is Ship 11 Div 368. He was recruited from Dover, DE but while he was DEP I moved to the Outer Banks of NC. Any one have a recruit from Delaware or live here in OBX?
Comment by Mom from St Pete on September 29, 2010 at 6:34am
Yes I am from Pinellas Park Fl. Just down the street from St. Pete. Glad a few of them flew out together. For A school he is going to Pensacola Fl. That will be so close to us to visit. I booked my flight last night on Price Line found it to be the cheapest. Now for the hotel and car. That's for tonight.

@Heather - WOO HOO on getting your hotel booked! One part down, flight and car to go.

Remember ladies - if you need to book a car, you can usually do it without paying up front, just like the hotels. I went to Expedia and found the best rate for me through Budget - they have a deal call "We Pick" or something like that where the rate is low, but they pick the car. It could be anything from a mid-size on up. I figured, why not?
