Well, the letter came today & it's official - I was a little worried because the letter took so long, but what a relief I have the right address & PIR date! I envy all of you that got to hear about how BC sucks, though...my child pulled a one liner on me (not that it's really out of character, but geez, couldn't he take pity on his mom?)

Hello everyone, I know what you mean about the texting between my son and his girlfriend. They would text each other riding in the same car. She in the front him in the back. I found the cutest card this weekend. It was written in text lingo. I mailed it off to him today teasing him about going through withdrawals from not being able to text.
I hope the mail doesn't take weeks to get to them. I don't want them to think we aren't thinking of them every minute. My son asked in his letter if we would write him back. I couldn't write fast enough.

My daugher left for bootcamp last Tuesday, we received her box of belongings on Saturday, mixed feeling, to say the least. I am not sure if she will graduate on the 12th of November, I have not received any letters yet, does any one know how to find out for sure when she will graduate? Or do I just have to wait for a letter?

@Lala Congrats!! Enjoy your time together! I hear ya about BC. Our son's girlfriend is going crazy not being able to chat or text with him. They were inseperable for over a year that they have been together. I can talkt and text with her, but it's not the same. They have a special relationship going on. They both just graduated high school and she is at college and away from home for the first time, she is having a hard time adjusting too. So, over all it is a lot of change in a short period of time.

we are enjoying some time with our sailor who is home on leave now. She just finished A-school in Pensacola. Her fiancee is in boot camp and I hope he has received her letters from last week cause if not he doesn't even know she graduated, is now on leave, or where she is going to next. Being in boot camp has got to be hard but being there and not knowing where your fiancee is even at must be a horrible feeling.

some calls are for further security clearance. Or to clear up anything that needs handled. Calls may (I say may) happen in 3 weeks some do not get to call, until the long awaited "I'm a Sailor" call...

First off Moms/G/F...... You are most likely going to get letters saying BC sucks. Don't freak out. They all pretty much go through the first 3 weeks hating it. Then things get so much better they put their eyes on the prize.

It is a long ride for them and for you it is gonna be insanity. Words of advice, if they say I am sick, tell them to go to medical. Pneumonia is a real thing there. If they say I am hurt, go to medical, stress fractures happen. Yes they are your baby and yes we want the best for them no we dont want them to linger in pain. They need to know that it is ok to to ask for help.

BC gets long if they hide things.... I know.
Be the biggest cheerleader for them, send encouraging letters, they love that. I sent prayers as well and when I knew things were bad, I took letters to church. The light is so dim when we don't know what is going on, they really are in the dark for a while. Then all of a sudden they are fine.

Keep your heads up, it is bumpy but wait until you get to see your kiddo. You will be so amazed at what they have become.
I am looking forward to that day with my son, cried when I saw my daughter walk through the gate. It is emotional and in that it is wonderful.

So great about your calls! We didn't get one- but am so glad you all did. Trav didnt' say what he would be doing, just to watch for him at graduation- as if he had to remind us! HA.
