suebal-I've only been a part of this group for a few weeks but from what I've read everyone is trying their best to be supportive of one another. We're all in the same boat (ha!). We are moms with proud but heavy hearts. I'm sorry to hear that your much anticipated phone call was, for whatever reason, only 30 seconds long. How disappointing for you. By bringing up these other things, these other moms are just trying to add something positive to your difficult day. As for me: go ahead and vent! And know that these comments aren't meant to make light of your situation, just help lighten your load.

Y'know, I know there are SRs that 'turn their time' over to someone else that "needs it more", and when that happens it is a wonderful thing AND it is something that I know my son is capable of/probably will do--at some point. I do not believe, however, that last night was a case of that. If it were, he would have said something to that point. Believe me, I am incredibly grateful that I at least got to hear his voice--this young man is my world and not talking to him for 3 weeks was making me crazy.  I also know that after only 3 weeks they probably ARE still working on being a team. After crying for an hour last night and not sleeping a wink all night, needless to say my emotions aren't the best. I was of the understanding that this was a place where we could say what we were feeling...if that isn't the case, I'll make the appropriate adjustments.

suebal:  The flip side of the selfish SRs is when one "gives up" his/her call home so someone else can call instead because there is such a strong need for that person to talk to "home."  Brings tears to my eyes when I hear of SRs doing that.
Comment by diannep on October 13, 2011 at 8:17am

I agree with joan, flbradybunch.  No way to actually gauge when the 3 week call will happen.  Hope your phone is "in a good place" when it does come in!

Have a great day, everyone!

I got a call last night...but it was only for 30 seconds...absolutely broke my heart that we couldn't talk longer (some other recruits were completely selfish and disregarded the fact that there were other recruits that needed/wanted to make calls)...made me feel a little better hearing his voice but at the same time absolutely broke my heart.

momwd4, if the call was for security reasons he will probably call again very soon. So keep your phone handy :-)

Freaking out because I am in the middle of Texas nowhere with shoddy phone service and I should be getting my 3 week call sometime this week. Between no mail yet and not at home to get it.... no bad phone service I might just have a nervous breakdown!
