Ladies, FTLW's recommendations are great ones to practice. We have been on these groups for a long time and have seen where the RDC's have figured out which SR's belong to which of us.
There is another good reason to keep names off of here and that is that some of your SR's will be going into fields that require anonymity and you may as well start practicing that now. There is no better time than the present to start practicing OPSEC rules and guidelines.
I was facebooking with an old friend from high school yesterday - she still lives around GL and I wanted to see if I could see her while I was up there. She said that her ex used to be an commander - drill instructor at GL and she saw first hand what kind of "torturous" treatment the SR's went through if the RDC's got a hold of something they could use against them.... I think she specifically mentioned the musical cards we have heard is such a no-no.
Just wanted y'all to know this info on here is no exageration - walk a fine line to help keep your SR flying BELOW the radar - that is the goal of BC.
Wow, this site is looking great! I can't believe PIR is next month. It will be here before we know it :o)
Welcome to all our new members!
We were addressing this issue on another PIR group (nothing had happened but I felt the topic was turning this way) so I thought I'd would post it on the newer PIR groups. Again...no one has done anything incorrect, just a "head's up".
A word of caution...the RDC's read these posts...and can easily match you up with your SR. No last names of your SR's ever on this site (even if it is different from your SR's we still do not do not recommend it). This also means in your username. (If you need help changing it I can post that.) I don't advise first names or pictures of your SR as your profile pic...but that is your choice. Make the settings on your page private and then just your friends can see the pictures you post there. Private message through the messaging system here on N4M's more personal information if you need too. Never print anything or repeat something that was said in confidence to you by your SR.
Hello Everyone!
I am going to invite you to start your DIvisional Discussions in the Discussion Forum area.
How to add a Discussion - Go to the bottom left corner of the DF area (It's actually just above the comment box here.) and click "Add a Discussion".
Fill in the Title and any description you like.
For DIV discussion Titles a suggestion would be:
SHIP ##/ DIV ###
Simple as that! Then the other memebers from your div can reply and you can connect up even closer there.
Remember that you are ALL part of this TG though and to stay on the main pages to talk here too! Plus, we veteran moms mostly stay on the main pages of the groups. There are 7-8 PIR groups running at one time and so we do not get to the DF's as much. We do check them as often as we can...OPSEC rules apply there also.
Meet and Greet
Hi everyone!
I'd like to invite someone from this group add the Meet N Greet to Events.
All you have to do is click on the date (in this case it would be November 17th for the M&G but you would use 11/18/2011 in the title) on the Calendar on the lower right on this page, it will take you to the events for that day. Click "add" and fill in the boxes.
Then everyone from this group may go there to RSVP for the M & G. ANYONE may attend...the Ramada does this for every PIR group as a courtesy, it is free. Those staying at the Ramada will get a voucher for two free drinks and they have a cash bar. They do not mind if you bring in a water or soft drink with you. The RSVP just helps them get a head count so they know how much food to prepare. But I am sure they make a bit extra!
Here is the info:
Meet N Greet
Thursday November 17, 2011
6-8 pm
Ramada Waukegan
200 N. Green Bay Rd.
847-244-2400
When you get to the description box you may add a personal invitation! You can also add the info in that box again if you like.
For our newer members and just a reminder for everyone else (I'll post this periodically in these beginning weeks):
Community Guidelines and OPSEC
Hello Everyone.
Safety for your SR (future Sailor) and you!
LAST names are NOT allowed anywhere on this site.
FIRST names ARE allowed but I, and some of the other “veteran” moms, will most often advise you not to use them. This is a public forum and anyone can read the posts-they do not have to be a member (if the group is set to private, the public cannot read but all N4M members can-so all you have to do is join) While they use their last names in BC (in fact they don't usually, if ever, find out each other’s first names until the end of BC), the RDC's know who they are and can then, with the right amount of info, link them up to you. So, let’s say you use your last name in your N4M name, post a picture of your SR...easy to match up...and so on.
Why does that matter? Your SR's are trying to get through BC with as little undue attention as possible. "Fly under the radar", so to speak. There have been reports from moms of their recruits being matched up with them. Some are just identified…some get IT (Intensive Training), I am guessing this depends on WHAT is posted…I know of one mom who said that her son had to do 5 push-ups just for every time she posted!
The MOST important reason for being discreet is OPSEC-Operational Security. This is a way of life for us now. It will be for your Sailors career and for some of them, even more so, depending on their individual security clearance. Some moms have mentioned that even today after years they do not know EXACTLY what their sailor does.
SPECOPS...definitely need to be VERY careful.
