Just found out my SR is graduating on 11/18 and I think this is the group I should be in. He is in ship 12, div. 004. Also, I am in need of some advice, Since his birthday is in a few days I have family members wanting to send birthday cards to him with money in it. Is this advisable or should I make them wait and we can take it to him at PIR? The grandmas just think he needs his birthday money but I am not even sure that he would need it. I also wasn't sure about the cards because some cards are quite fancy and I don't want to draw attention to him. Help!!

All good news today. Glad you got your letter flbrabybunch.  As my girl said in her letter to me "getting stoked," she was about what she is doing and I am because I can count days down.

Hello fellow PIR 11/18 moms! I've been following your comments but wanted to wait until I knew his graduation date "for sure" before posting anything. Thanks to you all for helping me feel like I'm not alone on this bumpy road!

Thanks FTLW!!!!  I am so excited - I got my form letter today - FINALLY!  With a short sweet note from my SR.... I had to laugh (and share) it said "Hey Momma, I hope all is well.  I know you love hearing it, so you were right.  This is the hardest thing I have ever done."

Yeah BC - you made him realize that Momma is ALWAYS right ;-)  (He knows that I would laugh at that remark - since we always have discussions in my family about how I am always right..... and how very badly I hate to be wrong.)

Yes it can be the pits. I still miss my daughter so much and still get down because she is not around. I do talk to her every day and skype at least once a wekk and that helps. I have also made the trip to Pensacola when she was in A-school to see her and I have been to VA Beach to see her 3 times already lol.

Gette- you and I may only be about an hour from each other. I am about 2 hours from Knoxville. I live in Brevard, about 30 min south of Asheville. The navy Lodge was pretty nice. Not a 5* place but the rooms were clean and the beds were amazingly comfortable. Of course that could have something to do with driving 16 hours lol. The room we got had a kitchenette and it was only $65 a night. I was on a very tight budget so it worked great for us. Two queen beds and a kitchen is awesome for that price. They don't have a shuttle but you are driving so you won't need one. They were doing some remodeling when we were there so it could be even nicer now. The cool thing is everyone staying there is military or military family. So it is like being with all your family and friends. Such a warm welcome feeling. If you book your room there you just call them direct and tell them you have a recruit at bootcamp. They will tell you to have your recruit come by the front desk at some point after PIR but they really don't enforce that. If you ask they will also give you a temporary pass so you can shop at the NEX just down the street without a military ID. That was pretty cool.

Thanks Lala, I am hoping to leave on Weds. night late and drive through the night.  My sister and I both do well driving at night and the possible other driver will do any daytime.  Where, if I may ask, did you leave from in NC?  I am about an hour from Kville and will head up 75 through KY. then follow the GPS the rest of the way.  Could you tell me a little about the Navy Lodge?

All this stuff is so Greek to me, but I guess it is with many many new Navy moms.  I am anxious for the 18th to come it seems like forever since I saw my girl.  Since the 1st of June I have seen her for about three weeks total and this is making me nuts.  I have done well with it most of the time though.  Some days it catches me off guard and I get down.  I know our kids grow up and do their own thing but it can be the pits.

I drove up as well Gette, from NC. Mapquest said it was a 12 hour drive. With stops for gas, bathroom breaks, drive-thru's, road construction and other traffic delays it too almost 16 hours to get there. I had 3 other people with me but I did all the driving myself. It took 18 hours to get home because of flooding in Chicago. In 4 hours we went 35 miles ugggg.  I suggest leaving earlier than planned and a good GPS :-) If I drive when my son has PIR I am going to take 2 days to get there and 2 to come home and stop and enjoy the trip. (this is his senior year and he is joining as well) We stayed at the Navy Lodge if anyone wants info about that hotel let me know.
