srmama:  Enterprise is supposed to come pick you up wherever you are, I believe.  For others off site, maybe a cab?

So how do you get to the off site rental car place if you don't rent from the airport

Mail this on an index card to your recruit if they are flying out to another base on PIR weekend. Once they get their itinerary they should fill it out and then give it to you at PIR. They won't have this info in time to mail it; they receive the details in their hard copy of orders and itinerary the week of graduation. They go back to their ship and rack to check out and that is when they should grab it so remind them. This will keep you from ending up at the wrong airport or airline gate.

Please fill this out when you get your final orders and then give it to us at PIR. Do not mail it.

Good morning everyone, I am finally back after not being able to use this site for at least a couple weeks. I still can't get on from my tablet but I have a brand new laptop and even though I am on vacation this week I am finding time for all of you :) In case you don't know me I am one of the veteran moms who stuck around after my Sailor had PIR more than 4 years ago to help you all get through the boot camp experience. I am also the mom who makes the ribbons for PIR that you see in my profile picture. If you have any questions or concerns please let me or one of the others like me know. You can also send me a friend request if you like. Many of you may already know me because I am also an admin for the original facebook PIR groups. If you are in that group please be sure and come to this page daily if possible. There are members here who just don't do facebook and there are members on facebook that don't use this site. So, to be able to connect with as many people as possible try and be active in both :) Also, don't limit yourself to meeting just those from the same division. Once boot camp is over your sailors will be heading to A-school with others from all the different divisions and you may know some of their moms/families as well. You are almost half way through and before long you will be packing and ready to go to see your new sailor. We all understand how you are feeling because we have been through it with our own sailors. No one understands like another name mom :) I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend :)

robmamma:  You are fine going to Milwaukee. The drive from OHare can vary depending on traffic.  You will hit no traffic in Milwaukee.  The shortest time from OHare to GL would be about 35 min, so you are close with 45 min.  Also, like they said, you would have had to use Midway for Southwest and that airport is over an hour from GL.  I think you are fine!  Car rental was probably cheaper too!

Good Morning!

Ship12 div016 mom, in most cases you would be totally correct, but my rental car booked through Southwest with Alamo is 12.99 a day. Plus my flight gets in late Thursday night and besides trying to find my way around a strange city on public transport, most off site car rental locations are closed early. Fast pass sounds like a good idea. I'll check into it

Thanks all, great info! Going to keep plans as is!!

I am flying into O'hare but I wish now that I had flown into a different place because everyone says it on this forum! I'm sure you will be fine at your location. What I can tell
You is about the rental car. If you book a rental car at an airport you will pay more money. I booked my rental car 7 miles away from the airport and got it for less than half the price. Also, I purchased a fast pass for the toll roads. This will also save you time and money, in my opinion. My kid hasn't graduated yet so I'm not sure my plans will work but I'm a planner and it's what I have found to be true!

Robomomma, if you are flying Southwest you would not go to O'Hare, but to Midway, which is a little further from RTC. I am flying into Milwaukee on Southwest because the flight price was about the same, but the rental car was much cheaper.

Hello, all

I have a question, I booked my flight Southwest for Milwaukee airport in Wisconsin , instead of O'hare in Chicago . I am also renting car from this airport than driving hour to base area. I read it was better to do , less expensive and  less stress out of the airport etc, etc..

Now I am reading everyone is coming from Ohare and less time from airport to base area?

I could still change all my paid reservations with airport and rental car, should I do this or just stay putt with my orginal plans?

Any additional advice you would like to input , welcomed!
