OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Mom4son a lot of the guys are at the USO right now, or at least were 30 moms ago when hubs called. So your sailor might be waiting there before he was to meet you.
Somehow I have to get out from between these two sleeping children and get dressed.

Can anyone confirm ohare is giving out gate passes? I'm supposed to be the mom that brings everyone's cell phone. I don't want to take phones and then not be able to get them to their owners plz help!

Just spoke with him. Said that gate passes are a go as long as they are present with us at the counter. Hope to see some of you today!

Ladies I'm with all of you. Sticking to original plan and will be at airport around 7:30. Hopefully we might can find a sailor who can get a message to the ones already through security so they can come meet us. Saying lots of prayers for all of us but already shedding tears.
Comment by Mom4son on November 28, 2013 at 11:36pm
Ok ladies that sounds good. I too will stick to my original plan to meet my son at 7am. But will check here in the morning for any new updates. Sleep tight and thanks once again for the info and support.

ProudNavyWife - Thank you for the update I agree with you, USO probably is a better authority. If not, we can wander around the airport & cry together, lol
Comment by MXNavyWife110 on November 28, 2013 at 11:26pm
Called the ohare USO and they told me there should be no issues getting a gate pass so we will see what happens tomorrow. They said your sailor does need to be present @ the counter with you to get you the pass tho so let's hope they can come back out of security.
I told my husband to call me as SOON as he got there and knew anything so ill post @ 4am if I have any new info
But I think I plan to stay here with the kids till try wake up and head down after that. I think the USO has a better grasp on what happens more so than the delta 1 800 #
