OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I talked to the recruiter yesterday about leave over Thanksgiving weekend.  He said that the Navy likes to get them to the schools asap.  So they will probably leave on Friday.  We are planning on staying till Saturday too.

My son will be going to Pensecola after PIR. Anyone know what kind of liberty he will have before heading out.

AKnavy mom, if you would like I can email you a copy of my son's letter and you can just disregard the fill-in-the-blanks. It would at least give you the body of contents. Just PM me if you would like.

Got my letter! My son seems excited about learning new things and is proud of his division! He credited us for giving him the training and upbringing he needed to be where he is. I give the glory to God for bringing him into our lives and shaping him into a great big brother and leader. Love my boy!

He's 18, birthday in December. I believe he's in his element. Miss him like crazy, every single day, still crying at random times. This week it was Oreos and chocolate milk that got me...his favorites! Almost lost it when I saw a Navy blue suited arm reach for a door while at physical therapy. Because of blinds, all I could see was the arm, but I envisioned my boy attached to that arm. I'm excited that he and his dad will have matching uniforms! The dungarees of my husband's Navy days are now digi-cams. I like the new style personally! Anyhow, great week to be a proud Navy mom! Less than 6 weeks to go!

AbitofWhimsy and TJsMom....My son is 20. He did not mention in his letter about anyone being held back. I hope that we all get some calls. If I do I will ask him if any are having a hard time...He is the type that won't say anything because he does not want me to worry, but I always worry. If I find out anything, I will let you ladies know. He called me last time at 0530, so I had better get some shut eye...nite ladies

Thanks for sharing, AKNavyMom. You can rest assured that it is not my SR goofing off at the wrong time. so glad to hear they're all starting to work better as a team. That's great news! Even though I haven't gotten a letter I feel comforted by all that you all have told me.
SplashMom, my SR is my oldest of 3 and he is 19. :)

So glad to read all the comments about all the letters! Hopefully we will get a call soon! Technically its Sat. now so maybe today! Fingers crossed!

It sounds like many are afraid they might not make their scheduled PIR. My sons letter in his P.S. said his graduation date was 11/27 as of now but he could get held back, but he was going to do all he could to graduate on time.

My son is 25

AKNavyMom, We have heard that the recruits can request a second form letter when there is a divorced parent issue (not that it is an issue with you). Perhaps he can request a second form letter and resend it to you. :)
