Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Thank you for sharing. if I get a call this weekend I plan to ask how the division is doing as a whole and will definitely report what I hear. fingers crossed that those of us that haven't received letters yet will get it tomorrow. Comment by jfrier(EM) on October 18, 2013 at 10:07pm: @ ABitofWhimsy My son is in Div. 022. Got a letter today! Yay! The one thing that stood out was his comment "at some point this will be completely fun" I think he was letting me know it was hard and not fun.LOL

Comment by BoomMom on October 18, 2013 at 9:59pm: TLCmom, I am so happy for you that you also got a letter (yeah 804). Safe and doing well is a great statement. He echoes what my son had stated about things being hard and is also "managing to survive." I am certain our next letters will be much different and they will be more confident with their feet under them. We will continue to pray for him (and all our recruits).

He said he missed me and loved me so much and that he knew that I was worried sick, but that he was "safe and doing well" and that adjusting to things had been really hard but he's managing to survive. He apologized that he didn't call me but as soon as he got off the call with his fiancé his RDC told him his time was up. He said" I was so upset, mom, you don't even know." He said that to begin with he just wanted to come home but he read Luke 14:28 and also remembered that he was not in this alone. He said "My family has my back, and my God has back". He also said that he was the "religious PO" I am so proud of him. He also thanked me for "looking up all of this stuff on the internet" (he gave me a hard time about this before he left) he said it really helped him out and he needed all the help he could get because leaving his great family had been so hard.
He did not say any thing about his teeth or about being sick or anything like that. I am so thankful to here from him. I will be praying for all of you and your SR's.

I think that it is hard for us because of the lack of communication with our SR and the fact that as parents we want to make things easier for our kids and we want to help them, take care of them, and protect them; and we can't do that which makes us feel lonely and helpless.

I figure he's young & fit, so he should be ok. I'm trying HARD to not be anxious about it......he hates it when he's not #1 Ace @ something, so he'll just have to keep pushing - he'll get there.
