N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

That's a great idea barefoot1 & 21Anne! We are staying all week, because his A school is in GL. Limited budget, but hoping we can find thongs to do. Bringing movies and music for him too.

barefoot1~ I do the same thing!  I usually look up things to do and get as much information about an area as possible...makes my husband crazy, but I notice that when we get some place he always asks me what is around!  LOL

Good morning ladies!

I can't believe two weeks have already passed - Thanksgiving isn't THAT far away :)  I find it helps me by looking for things up in the area that I know my family may want once up there for PIR.  I made contact with a church in the event we choose to go to church while there, and in getting a response from the minister learned some of the drill instructors attend that particular church. It makes me feel a little bit connected.

Hoping letters come this week - but if not, it's OK!  I'm still sending mail to my SR every day, including sports pages with updates on the different leagues. And when I'm REALLY missing my SR, I just go to my phone and watch one of the many videos I have so I can see that kid in action.

Comment by 21anne on October 17, 2013 at 9:26am

It is difficult not to be able to see them or have contact with them and not sleeping and missing them so much is not fun.  Bethin NY is 100% correct, no news is good news.  Although this is my first kid through Navy boot camp, my other son went through Air Force boot camp 2 years ago and my husband (Navy Reservist) has had 4 deployments in the last 9 years.  I found that if I have a calendar of events to do or look forward to and concentrate on those, the real event that I am longing for (in this case PIR that is just about 6 weeks away) seems to come quicker.  I don't know if this "technique" of mine will help anyone, but even if it help one of you it was worth mentioning.  Once they get to their "A" school, they should be able to call, face time, Skype, etc. and it is wonderful.

(((((((hugs)))))) Bethin :-(

Don't stress about the bandaids. Hopefully today or tomorrow will be letter days for us!!

Our SR shared his room with his 12 year old brother, so going in it isn't quite as hard for me. Brother is now sleeping in SR's bed, though, lol! They all have a way to cope, it seems. Youngest daughter, 14, has the blanket off SR's bed she sleeps with every night. Middle daughter, 16, is writing letters like crazy! Oldest, 22, is making friends with his 17 year old girlfriend . . .

I know what you mean about cleaning. He left a pile of clothes in the bedroom for me to *pack away*, lol! Ugh . . .

It's rainy and blah here today, must have gotten the weather you all were having yesterday. Makes me want to just stay in my jammies and sleep with the cat all day,

Here's to mail call today!

It has to be in the air - was awake most of the night fretting & just wanting concrete evidence that he is ok.. Maybe we'll start getting real letters so we at least know they're hanging in (just like we are).  Now I'm regretting those damn snoopy bandaids - hopefully the RDC has a tiny bit of humor.... I so planned on at least starting to clean his room this weekend - he asked that we paint while he's gone, but otherwise he swore he would take care of it while home on leave (I know, HAH)... For the moment, I'll be happy if I at least strip the bed and put away his clean laundry.  I still can't go in there without tears :(

Jimmysmom:  Not sure about using a debit card to make phone calls, but it would be a good idea to mail him a phone card (at least 250 min as connection from a pay phone takes minutes off).  He can also buy one there at the NEX with his Recruit Cash Card.

Good Morning All !

Comment by Mom4son on October 17, 2013 at 8:35am

@jimmysmom  My son arrived at bootcamp Oct 2, other than the phone call to say he arrived he has only made one 3 min phone call last sat (to his girlfriend). We just got his 'letter' this last Tuesday. But we live in California so not sure if it just takes longer to get here.

Some of the moms have said the recruits get a calling card along with their stuff. I went ahead and mailed one out to my son yesterday (just incase). But when they call or if they call seems to be different for each SR. There are a lot of moms here who know a ton of stuff and will share it with you. This is a great website.

Hang in there!

Good idea Aaronsmom06.
Also, couldn't sleep last night for thinking about him. Have even been wearing an old sweatshirt of his, how ridiculous is that. Sure hope there's a letter in the mail today :)

I sent a thick envelope. One a week will be coming actually. We thought they would love all if the football results. Lol.
NFL College too. I worried at first with the bandaid comments, but I think that might be worth it too... And all our boys might enjoy that. ;)
