OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Having a hard couple of days, missing mine so much also. I just want to hear his voice. On a good note two weeks down. As much as I miss him. I thought even two weeks would never come. We cannot wait ti see him!!! Hug him!!!

I will send a few band aids too. That is a great idea. I sent him with 9- 30 min calling cards when he left. Hopefully that is plenty for him and if someone else needs them. :). Have a great day ladies. Tomorrow is another Friday marked off!!!!

My son left on Oct. 3rd and all we have recieved is the form letter.  We did get the quick phone call the night he got there but no contact since.

Also a question about the phone cards.  He has a debit card with him, can he use that to make calls or does it have to be a prepaid phone card?

It really is nice to come here and "visit". It helps so much! Sometimes I just go through all the comments and smile, laugh, or cry. We are all in this together and having that common bond between us just helps make it a little easier. Thank you all for that.

Splashmom I know how you feel. My son left on the 3rd and I thought I was through it but yesterday I just started crying again. I miss him so much.

BoomMom:  Oh my gosh on the recruiter thinking they are graduating on Thanksgiving Day...obviously didn't have the original day right either....thinking it was Fri, not Wed.

As far as the cash money, if it was just one bill, and letter is not thick, he won't have problems...can slip it into his wallet, like you said.

Bethin:  Snoopy bandaids???  Oh my!  Those could lead to some RDC excitement!

Comment by diannep on October 16, 2013 at 10:48pm

momm2five:  No, we don't have Arbys around here anymore...sigh....but Chilli's has a chocolate lava cake to DIE for... If I happen to spot an Arbys somewhere in my travels, I'm heading right in there for that lava cake!  :-)

proud mom of Kayla:  They won't get in trouble for the bandaids, may take a little ribbing if they have to open the letters.  But the bandaids probably will be worth it!  Try not to stress!

Too funny, SplashMom!

Lol, splashmom! It's been rainy and blah here all day so I'm sure that makes it worse. Hoping for better day tomorrow. Ready to feel happy again. So down today!

Can relate to the mood tonight. And agree with you all about the 2 week mark. Hopefully the recruits are adjusting.
