N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

You're in the right group! I received the box of stuff last Tuesday and my boyfriend called Saturday saying his graduation date was 11/27! He said that he sent out the form with his address, but I haven't received it yet, I'm hoping for tomorrow!

Comment by Mom4son on October 14, 2013 at 3:45pm

Am I in the right group here? Seems like everyone else knows the address and ship info already. My son arrived at boot camp 10/3. He called his girlfriend this past Saturday saying he graduates on 11/27/13. His dad received his 'box' of clothes last Wednesday but no mailing address or graduation info yet.  I thought that info came about 1 week after the box of stuff. Is that correct?

Ellen0502 How much postage should we put on the manila envelope? Also, do we fold it and put it another envelope? (not sure how to send the manila one) Thank you!! ;)

Hey all, are we at Week 2 yet ?  Just wondering what they are up to.  Feeling kinda down since I missed the call on Sat - trying to shake it off, but blah :(

Comment by ellen0502 on October 14, 2013 at 2:54pm

Their first mail call is approx two weeks after they have moved into their ship for training, and usually falls on a Sunday. After the first mail call the receive mail  Mon-Fri. They write their letters on Sunday and they are mailed out on Monday.

Well it has been a week since my son swore in and left to BC.  It sure is quiet around the house.   Now.. it is just me and my youngest son who is 5.  This is a great site and I am glad I found it. I am thinking positive thoughts for all of our Sailor Recruits and am proud of every single one of them.  Not to mention....you moms out there!

Thank you, ellen0502! I had told my SR I didn't think it would be a problem, and am glad I mentioned it on the phone!

Comment by ellen0502 on October 14, 2013 at 2:29pm

Ladies, You can send your a manila envelope with enough postage attached for your SR to send home some of the mail s/he has received. They will not get in "trouble" for it, but if you do send one warn your SR it is coming. They will probably have to open it in front of a RDC, and a warning to them will help their uneasiness when asked to open their mail and show what is inside. :)

Hello to all the proud moms! My name is Nicole and I'm happy to have found this site and the helpful comments. It's amazing how we are thinking and feeling the same yet from different areas. How awesome for all who was able to talk to their future sailor! I didn't get a call (tear) so I will just have to bombard my love one with letters!!! I look forward to sharing this experience with each of you and hopefully will get the chance to meet in November!
