For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

He also called GF - she says he's sad & missing home, but other than not enough sleep, he's ok. I am sad :(

He was able to talk to me for 30 min, then called his girlfriend for 15, then tried his sister but she missed it, on the phone with me. He is doing awesome. He's loving the challenge. He is Ship 02, Div 903. He was picked to be the division Athletic Petty Officer. He said he is sleeping great and the food is really good. I am still on cloud nine. What a great relief to know he is doing so well. My heart goes out to you thorgirl17. Praying you will hear from your son soon!

Comment by BoomMom on October 12, 2013 at 8:13pm: Well, just returned from a day at the Pumpkin Farm with grandkids... but DID hear the phone ring (albeit loud with rides, people, etc.) and got the :25 call from our son. He said I had NO CLUE as to how challenging it was as their whole lives have changed, routines, get yelled at all the time, lack of sleep, etc. Food is plentiful but PT's are currently "a joke" and he needs much more workout or will lose much of what he gained over the last year from CrossFit, etc. Sounded very challenged but ok. He asked for MUCH mail to be sent to him and said they were receiving their first mail tomorrow. Sure hope what I mailed Wednesday gets there for tomorrow... I am confident that the next call will be very different in tone. Congrats to all those who received calls... (and have new grandkids).

I still haven't received my form letter yet and my daughter arrived 10/1 so you definitely are not the only one with a letter that took forever. I am starting to get irritated that it isn't here yet! Hope you get a call at some point this weekend!
