Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by diannep on October 12, 2013 at 5:08pm: 900 divisions include ones with marching, choir, musical experience and also those willing to serve. Some attend to the VIPs at the PIRs they work (two plus their own). They are called the performing division!

He said they get to start writing this weekend and get the letters we have been sending! I was on here reading the posts when he called and the GL area code came up I couldn't grab my phone fast enough!

Comment by 21anne on October 12, 2013 at 4:02pm: I got the call!! I didn't think I was going to, but I did!. OMG he sounded great and was talkative on the phone which is not him. He was happy and is really enjoying this experience. I feel like a 1000lb weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

Comment by vivian (Ship 03, Div 021) on October 12, 2013 at 3:53pm: My son called this morning! YAY! I was out with the dogs so I missed the call 3 times! Thankfully he tried once more! I would have been sick!

He said his time has been "stressful". He has been in PT, cleaning up or buried in a book.

He also got to call his dad and his girlfriend.

He said the best part of his day (yesterday) was getting mail. That mail FROM him was less likely to happen but phone calls would hopefully become more frequent. I'm ok with that.

His dad was great with him - I feel lucky that we kind of got 2 calls from him this morning. One to me and one to dad.

I miss him so much and I know he is homesick. Feeling like he is in over his head but he would NEVER say so. He sounded older on the phone, but you could hear the crack like he had when his voice first started to change...

Comment by Terrii on October 12, 2013 at 3:43pm: Just got off the phone with my SR. He sounds wonderful! We got to talk for 43 minutes! I am so much happier now than I was an hour ago!!! A fellow from a nearby town that swore in with him is in his division so that makes it even a little better for him :) His goal was to be "invisible" during boot camp and one of his RDC's just asked him when he came into the division...lol. He has been there since the beginning! He is doing a good job of flying under the radar ;) I am one happy mama! They start their week 1-1 this Tuesday. Ship 2 div 903 He is a "Stick" so now I have to find out about that :)

I put off the "noisy chores" today for now just in case. Don't want to be standing right there and miss the call cuz couldn't hear it thru the vacuum - it can wait! I had no idea they might get to call today, very glad I got on line and saw the posts.
