N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hey ladies, I have some questions about the whole holiday leave thing, i'm super confused! Do they get to choose between leave for the holidays or leave after they are finished with there A school? Or can they have both? Is it possible to just take part of leave at the holidays? Thank you for any insight! My sailor just isn't that great at communicating, so i'm slightly confused. (ugh!)

Comment by 21anne on December 7, 2013 at 10:17am

The travel I mention below is not for holiday leave it is to move on to their "A" school.

Transportation was telling my son that they people in THU can only travel on Wed.  so if their orders come down anytime after noonish on a Tuesday, they are stuck there for another week (they have to have a day before travel to out process)

Thanks Tina - I am just waiting to see I it's approved and what time it starts so I can book his flight :).

Arlene I spoke to Cody yesterday, he had to pick if he wanted to come home for Christmas or New Years....they are not allowed to go in the hole while @ THU..which makes no flippin sense to me! But since one of his buddies is coming to visit us for new years, he chose to stay at RTC for Christmas! :(
Comment by momm2five (GM MOM) on December 5, 2013 at 7:53pm

That's upsetting. He wasn't told by his recruiter, he was told at RTC. One of his RDCs I believe. He will still come home, but that's a bummer. His sister is getting married next October, and we are really hoping he will be able to make it and have leave . . .

Looks like my son has to wait another week in THU so most likely will not be joining back up with 803 - probably will have to wait for 805 or 806 :(.  Does anyone know when the holiday leave times will be approved for THU people?  my son said he put in for the second one but i dont know if its approved yet.  Also, if the leave starts on a friday, is it friday all day, or friday after working hours?  I want to book his plane ticket but dont know if i should make it in afternoon or evening (afraid to book evening in case of snow)....

Great idea on the pringles cans beachwalker.  I have a few mailing tubes that would work too.

If your sailor did not order a dvd of the PIr or his boot camp picture (mine didn't) you can still do it . I had read somewhere that you couldn't get them after boot camp.   You have to call Navy Exchange Photographic Services Office ( 1 847-578-6205 ) The price was
$29.00 for the dvd and 120.00 for the small package of pictures. Ordered both this morning.  Hopefully they will arrive before Christmas.

Hi Everyone!  A thought about shipping goodies to our sailors......I am collecting Pringles cans from some of my school staff to pack home made cookies.  I even have one teacher and one counselor who are going to have some their 'kids' decorate the cans.  My hope is that the cookies will arrive still in tack and not as crumbs.

Flsailormom, yes my daughter is IT. She mentioned yesterday that she would probably class up next week. Can't wait for a weekend visit.
