Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

The post mark on my letter is Oct 8. Hoping you all get yours today!!

Now the gut dropping crap. SR invited the 17 year old girlfriend he's been dating for 7 months instead of his big sister. :-( Now I have to tell sister. I hate to be a meanie, but I'm not taking the girlfriend, she's not staying with us. We have five kids of our own. Grrr . . . I can't believe he did this.

Comment by 21anne on October 11, 2013 at 10:05am: Blstz822 I would keep calling. His job at the present time is recruiting and part of that is the follow through. He is getting paid to answer his phone and answer questions so I would not feel bad about calling. There is a chance he is on leave (holiday weekend, hunting season has started, or emergency leave). You could call the office, just in case there is someone filling in for him or another recruiting office answering the messages for that office.

Comment by Blstz822 on October 11, 2013 at 9:42am: His cell phone. I've left him a message Wednesday and yesterday and he didn't get back to me. Very small recruiting office, he's the only recruiter. It seems he could at least let me know there's no new information. And I hate to bug him again today. I'm sorry for being a pain.

Comment by 21anne on October 11, 2013 at 9:30am: Blstz822 are you calling the recruiter's cell phone or the recruiting office? I would keep calling both. If you are just calling his cell phone, he could be on leave. Sometimes all the recruiters have to go to a central recruiting station (my son's recruiting station was Peekskill, NY but every Friday the recruiters have to go to the Middletown, NY station for unit updates/meetings etc) The Navy Chief that is in charge of them has this group doing this, It could be the same for your area. Did your sailor belong to a DEP facebook page? You may be able to find someone to get in touch with that way. Good Luck!!

Comment by Blstz822 on October 11, 2013 at 9:19am: I just called the post office, no letter again today and the recruiter is not answering my messages. I want to make reservations like all of you are doing, but without confirmation from the recruiter at least I don't feel right.

Comment by Bethin NY (Ship 11 025) on October 11, 2013 at 9:10am: I had better work on my patience - couldn't wait and booked Navy Lodge Tues-Sat. Also went for the kitchen - hoping my SR will get some down time on Thurs & just be able to hang for a bit. Food & Mama go together , so better have a place to keep it :) The lady there was super nice - I explained I was a probable PIR for these days - she said if there was a change, they don't charge since they know everything is subject to change. You just have to call by 6pm on the day before you are arriving. In the event that he leaves on Friday in the morning, we can cancel Sat (by noon) and not have to pay. Sounds flexible, so I figured I had nothing to lose.

Comment by barefoot1 on October 11, 2013 at 8:25am: Good morning all! Looks like Navy Lodge is going to have quite a few of us for a few days that week! I am also booked there for Tuesday through Saturday. Got a room with a kitchen as well, figured it would be cheaper and 'more home-like', especially with the holiday! The more I think about it, it's really fitting that we get to spend Thanksgiving being reunited with our kids and ALSO being surrounded by our new Navy family!

My late hubby's family is all outside of Montgomery AL....that's what happens when a "Miami" gal heads to Auburn for college...I met a BAMA BOY in vet school ... and the rest is history! We had 27 yrs together before the Lord called him to his eternal home.
