OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Anyone know of a hotel that has suites. We are driving up from AL and we are bringing his 4 siblings with us. I figure even if they can't go to the graduation they can spend time with him the next day... I hope. If there are no affordable suites, I might just get two rooms. Still waiting for the letter!

Aaronsmom, just checked it out...there's one with a kitchen for $71? I'm leaning towards the lodge also!!  All five of us for 11 meals, eating out (and snacks) might get very expensive!!

sweetshave;  CatMom stayed there....said it was great!  Good choice!  :-)

Sarge's shuttle runs from the airports, to/from PIR, and around town.  The "shuttles" are actually taxis....Sarge gives Navy families a discount.  It is cheaper if you can pair up with others on this site who may be arriving near the same time you are...  Sarge:  847 212 0246 or email johnspadaro@att.net

For those who may not know:

The ship number is their barracks number.  There are 12 divisions within a ship...your SR's division trains with a brother division (if your SR's division is an even number, the odd number before it is the brother division).  The 900 and 800 divisions do not normally have brother divisions, unless there are two 900s or two 800s in a PIR group.

TG=Training Group.  There are 52 in the year.   They just began the new Navy fiscal year so they started over with the numbers, and therefore this PIR group is the 3rd of that year.  They start the division numbers over with TG 001, so that is why your division numbers are relatively low.

I booked the Holiday Inn Express last night.  Decent rate and the hotel has pretty good reviews.
