OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

EnTurtle, I hope your hubby heals quickly!

So bummed we won't get to meet.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday night. We have over 350 RSVP TOTALS. You may want to arrive around 5:15PM and get a good seat up front. I want to thank everyone in advance for the basket raffles. Last week we raised over 1500 and hopefully that covers last week and part of these weeks food cost. I salute everyone for their efforts. Have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving. Also I will have information on where to get a free thanklsgiving dinner for the sailor and their families.

Thank you all for the wonderful words of support.  It really does help.  I wish I had more words to say how much it means to me to have you all here, people I've never met (and probably won't get to meet!) giving me so much support.  You ladies are amazingly warm, wonderful people and I'm so thankful for everyone here.

diannep:  Yes, he's in RCU until he heals then he can resume training.  Could be a long process, it sounds like.  He says it's a lot like Orange is the New Black, except no phone or TV privileges!

21anne: No visiting, he says.  I wish they could have given him an afternoon for Thanksgiving, but c'est la vie.  We'll get through this.

Jolene2Sailors:  I would love any suggestions you have.  I sent you friend request.

I'm praying for good weather for everyone as you travel to GL.  Hopefully, since you're on the west side of the lake you can avoid any bad weather Mother Nature tries to throw at you.  On diannep's comment this being converted to an alumni board, I'll stay in the group, but I'll not be following the posts here.

Congrats to everyone!!

Ok, veteran moms. I just got off the phone with my Sailor. He told us he is an Honor Recruit. Got to talk to and do Q & A with new recruits. Does this mean we sit in the special section? What does this mean for him? He didn't say!!

Comment by momm2five (GM MOM) on November 23, 2013 at 5:27pm

Awesome! Sounds great! I will have a pink shirt on!
