If anyone has found out their recruit has been promoted already in boot camp, can you PLEASE write me? I'm stressed out, I haven't heard from Luke in a week..I was getting at least one call a week, but no letters, he said on Thanksgiving that he's so busy with paperwork and keeping about 50 recruits in line that its hard to find time to write..

Stressed and sad today..
Anything will help,
Thanks!

When we talked on Thanksgiving, H said something about getting her promotion, but I don't know anything other than that. I know she had passed all of her PQS (?) prior to bootcamp, and I think that is some of the stuff they are tested on in BC, but that was supposed to get her a promotion.
Oh, interesting..I was told he's a Yoeman..
Has she written you a lot?
My son is a Yoeman too! Question is...what's a Yoeman? LOL
I think you might be talking about two different things here.

The actual paygrade promotions are held until they graduate. They are all E-1 during boot camp, even if their contracts say E-2 or E-3. If you read the contract, it will say that happens upon successful completion of basic training. While there may be a couple meritorious advancements, their paygrade upon PIR is set by their contract, signed before boot camp. If it isn't in writing, it isn't going to happen.

The boot camp "promotions" are temporary positions of responsibility. There are many positions such as RCPO, section leaders, yeoman, weapons, education, fitness, laundry and so on. Those are ONLY during boot camp and have nothing to do with what happens after. Oh, it might get them a leadership position in A school, but it won't bump up their paygrade. And yes, these positions can keep the recruits, very, very busy.
Thanks, your message is appreciated.
Good Morning lukesgirl, My son was promoted on day three of arriving at BC. He also has to do all the paper work for the div. recruits. My son is kept real busy too. Luke is safe and sound and doing all he can to make his time in BC rewarding. Just hang in there. Please keep yourself busy too. It will help make the time fly by. Have we friended each other? If not lets do and I will be able to share more info...
Getting one call a week? That is great. I have gotten three calls - two less than 5 minutes and one call on Thanksgiving Day. Consider yourself fortunate. I'm sure everything is fine! They are in hell week so I'm sure he has little time this week. Hang in there...I'm sure he will have lots of stories for you about his busy days and nights. Don't be stressed and don't be sad - the end is in sight!
i was told they wont gt any higher than an E3, which my son already has. I was told that he would make E4 before the end of A school, i hope thishlps
Yes, no one makes E-4 out of boot camp. That paygrade requires them to have completed training for their rating, which is what happens at A school. SOME A school contracts guarantee E-4 upon successful completion of A school. They must wait for the Navy-wide advancement cycle to advance even if they have E-4 guaranteed. A few will be "frocked", meaning they will wear E-4 when they finish school, but will only receive E03 pay until they are advanced on paper.

Still, everyone is an E-1 DURING boot camp. What they are upon graduation depends on their contract, not on what jobs they preformed during basic training. Again, the "petty officer" promotions in boot camp are not "real", they receive no extra pay, they don't keep the title or position once they leave RTC.
