Hi ladies, I'm Katherine, I'm Pmgcakes' sons' girlfriend, thought it was time I actually joined since I read this thread almost everyday! Wanted to say thank you for all of the stories you share, it's comforting to know what you all have found out through this experience as well, and I hope to learn more for the remainder of this journey!
Hi Katherine! Welcome :-) My son's GF is a member too; her user name is Navy A's. I hope you had a great time in Switzerland!
haha yes I did! It was beautiful, so excited the recruits will get to travel overseas, it's such an amazing experience! I hope your Thanksgiving with your son was as wonderful as S's family's!
Awww, thanks Katherine - Thanksgiving was awesome; you can see my pictures on FB next time you are at Patti's. My son knows your SR :-)
You didnt tell Lori about the amazing Swiss Chocolate that you brought home for me....
Hello Katherine...and I second Lolo...Welcome!!! If Pmgcakes mentioned to you....My son is the "Laundry Guy" in the division :)!! Great to have you!

If your attending PIR on the 17th, I wish for your support to wear RED to the event :)!! I'm a Mom on a mission LOL...to get all attending to wear RED (Remember Everyone Deployed)...to show our new Sailors our Pride and Support !!!

Thanks, Hugs!

Cindy
Wow, no ones written here in awhile..
I was curious if anyones gotten a phone call since Thanksgiving..I figured maybe they wouldn't be getting one this week, since they got to see us on Thanksgiving..
My boyfriend still hasn't written, I just get random 20 minute phone calls from him;he got promoted and said he's very swamped with paperwork and being in charge of about 50 recruites now.. :(
If anyones heard anything, let me know! :)
My Recruit's family saw him on Thanksgiving and they didn't get a call last weekend, so I'm guessing they will be allowed to call this Saturday. And if my thinking is correct they should be receiving the second mandatory phone call this coming week, or right before graduation as well. They are supposed to get a long one upon completion of Battle Stations, but I'm not sure if that is this coming week, or the same week as Graduation. Usually the phone call falls on the 7th week for the 8 week boot program, so since our sailor's are on the 6 week, I'm guessing the 5th week is right. But they have to call us before Graduation regardless to let us know if they passed everything, only 16 days more to go, so a phone call and a reunion are both close!
Welcome Katherine! I just joined as well and I sure am glad I found this site! Your boyfriend is in the same ship/div as mine it seems :)
How long have you been dating? Are you getting through this all pretty well?
We've been together for almost 4 1/2 years (never broken up), it will be 5 years in June. The first few weeks were really hard, the lack of communication was the strangest part to get used to. Going from talking to someone multiple times in a day to nothing at all I think was the hardest part for me. I've been doing much better since my first letter at the beginning of November and the first reasonably long phone call as well. It's so nice to get phone calls almost every week, usually they only get 2 total... so we are all extremely lucky. I'm in College so it's pretty easy to keep busy, but it gets lonely on the weekends and nights especially. I'm close to his family and friends so they've been a wonderful support system too and make this experience 100% easier. I'm thankful we are approaching the end soon. Can't wait to see him! How about you?
Luke and I have dated off and on for the last five years, but we got back together in Jan. And everything has been wonderful. We've been living together since Feb. So I definetly know how you feel..its hard going to bed alone and waking up alone, but its making our relationship soo much stronger! :) we've been talking about getting married sooner than later lol, but I told him just because lifes thrown a curveball, I want a real proposal lol. We've decided to go look at rings while he's home for Christmas, and I'm soo happy!!
We've been through a lot together and apart through the years, but this is it. :)
I'm getting closer to his mom and step dad, but his dad is an interesting person and keeps to himself; he has a brother who's only a year younger than me, but we don't get along all the time lol. I feel like he's my brother already!! Haha.
I'm also very greatful that this is almost over! I miss the communcation..this site has helped me more than I could have imagined. I don't know anyone around here that's ever been through any of this.
We're one day closer! :)
That's awesome! One of S's friends graduated boot in September and I've been in contact with his wife quite a bit, she and I are a year apart and I've found her experience especially comforting. They were married before he left, and are now living together while he's at school, her relationship from what she told me is stronger than ever (through this experience). I'm still a bit young (in my eyes) for marriage, but if all goes as planned that's where we are headed. We basically grew up together, all through High School and now College, so I can't really imagine, nor would I want, any alternative. His parents joke that they will claim me as a dependent because I'm there so often LOL! Even while he's away I still visit and spend time with his mom and sister, I'm an only child so the family unit is fun for me.
But I'm sure with time you'll grow closer with Luke's family. Especially with the current situation, military families really only have each other to understand this experience. It's not something that anyone can just grasp unless they've gone through it themselves. That's why I love this website so much, even if some parts are speculative, it's comforting to know others are going through something similar, regardless the relation.
This part will be over soon, and I'm eager for the next part, schooling! What's Luke's job if you don't mind me asking, do you know where his school will be?
