Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 043 and 044

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important Every single concern is genuine Every single member is important to us We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

Is this the beginning to "hell week" for our SRs? I get confused with the timing of everything??

Aloha ~ my son is in Div 044 and thank God, he said he is homesick but is adjusting and making new friends!  Best news I received last week.  We are planning to attend his graduation and I am wondering if it is a good idea to rent a car or go by shuttle from O'Hare to our Hotel in Wakeagan.  I'm worried that if we take the shuttle to the base they drop passengers off at the gate.  How far is it to the graduation site?  My 86 year Mom will be attending and worried that it will be too cold and if it is snowing to dangerous to walk from the gate to the hall.

Also, if we rent a SUV, is it pretty safe to drive.  Someone said they keep the roads plowed and shouldn't be a problem.  Any advise?

I want to send out a big "Mahalo" for the Adopt A Sailor family who will be hosting my son for Thanksgiving!  It is such a relief he will be taken care of for Thanksgiving.  :)

Faith, I had the same concerns as you, seeing as how we are in S. FL.  My son graduated in Feb 2010....I rented an SUV and took my driver-savvy older son with me.  Luckily, the roads were kept clear, so no problems!

As far as time after graduation, those flying out most likely will do so the day after PIR (bussed the night before.....you can meet them there and visit with them....with ID you can get an airlines gate pass and wait until departure)....if staying in GL for A School, you will get daytime liberty with your sailor throughout the weekend....they must return to base each night.

Hi Dianne! Just reading through some of the old comments and got to this one. Question regarding the busing... you mention that this happens the night before. Does that mean that they're cutting their liberty time short on Friday or do they bus them after the normal curfew? My son is heading to SC, so we WILL plan to go to the airport to spend some more time with him.I imagine that we won't get a lot of time with him, but would like to at least get the whole day Friday! Thanks :-)

Hello All! My son is in ship 13 div 44 headed to South Carolina for Nuke School. Does anyone have any idea if they will have time off for Christmas or because they are so new there, they have to stay on on base? I'm in So California and would like to make plans to visit him if he has time off. Anyone hear anything on this?  Thanks! Christine

Hi SoCal, my son is in the same div and he too will be flying to South Carolina. He told me that he heard they are getting a little bit of time off for Christmas, but he had no idea how long. He was thinking he would be able to come back to Texas for a bit. I hope what he heard was right!
Mahalo Faith and Diannep for your great information. Yes, definitely very proud of our SRs! Miss and love them so much, but very proud of their decision to join the Navy! My son is going to "A" school in South Carolina to be a Nuke. It sounds like he ships out on Saturday! Wow, that's not much time to spend with him :(. Can we give them his cell phone and care package at the Airport? I hope he can come home for Christmas???

LOL, My son also said the food was good. Must be a highlight of their day! Very awkward that they can't talk to each other.

We will rent a SUV and pray for clear roads and then we can drive onto the base. My son wants to go to Chicago to eat? I hope we have enough time?

Mahalo for all your information and please tell your SR's we are very proud of them, Happy Thanksgiving, and Good Luck! Thank you Navy for Moms, it's nice to connect with People in the same "boat" that I'm in and going thru the same emotions... Very proud, but miss them so much! Boo - Empty Nest Syndrome :(. Aloha Nui Loa and God Bless!
Hello! I got a one minute call from my son last night telling me we were adopting a Sr. Becker for thanksgiving. I am sorry to use his last name, but he had to hang up before I got any hometown or first name details. Contact me if you claim this recruit! Chris

I will send you a private message - it is not my son but I know where he is from! I sent you a friend request so i can message you!

All A School bases have holiday stand down, but the time your Sailors come home maybe different from each other. When they get to A School they will have indoc, will be given their holiday leave times, and will submit a chit for leave approval. They will all probably/most likely be home for at least some time at Christmas.

Hi All!

Just want to say thanks for all your support during boot camp. This has been an exciting and difficult rollercoaster ride! I couldn't have done it without all of you and for that I am sooooo greatful!

I hope we get the chance to meet at Sarge's meet and greet! It will be nice to put a face with all our online names... I was thinking it would be fun to wear nametags with our online names so we can find each other there since there will be many other divisions.

What do you think?
