I stole this discussion.. lol.

Our Sailors will come home for the HOLIDAYS! woot woot! So... I bet that makes all of us happy but them wondering.. How are we going to transport them? Do we have to pay? Will they get reinbursed? What if I am driving? And many more questions.. and ladies.. I don't know frankly all the answers to those questions and that is where this discussion comes in play. I will tell you what I have been told from Jonathons recruiter and you can add what information you know or what questions you might have..

From my understanding at this time.. our recruits will be eligible to go home after graduation but have to report to their A schools on the 2nd of Jan.

Thank you so much for making the inquiry. So, I guess it is safe to make reservations for my son as well. Again, many thanks,. I just sent your answer to my daughter in law. Hopefully that will make her night once she opens her emails.

Does this include Special Warfare Divisions too??
Well... I looked this up and it might help you decide.... Enterprise to rent daily cheapest for Chicago O'Hare airport is roughly $90 a day. A taxi from the Airport to Great Lakes ( general area) is roughly $65 for a single trip. So if you stay 3 days.. a cab there and back is rougly $130 plus any other places you get a cab if you do a dinner somewhere off base. And then if you rent a car it's roughly $270 for 3 days. And you have freedom of where you go.
I say we all meet at the airport and carpool to the hotels.. lol. If it were only that easy!
I was just thinking the same thing. I may drive but I am not sure. We should get a group going for both groups. Rent a van
This might be a silly question but do they get to go on leave right after PIR or do they have to wait until later that day or the next. I am thrilled to have him home for one more Christmas. There is also a shuttle bus you can take from the airport to hotel and back. We were looking at six people and it was around $80 to and just over $70 back to airport. I'm sure it is cheaper for fewer people. It was on the brochure included with the letter.
I read somewhere.. not sure where.. that they will be able to leave afterwards but have to sign out first.. lets all hope they have the paperwork ready.
Yes I am so happy to hear this...I guess the PIR date of 12/22 is a blessing really..although I hate the thought of traveling this time of year..and another thought is making me hesitate on making arrangements this soon, 1. not sure when they can leave. 2. Do I buy him a ticket home or can he make the arrangements? 3. for what time do I buy the ticket home? and I am wondering if we should plan on arriving a day early..just incase the weather is bad and have flight delay...lol I am probably overthinking I do that alot
Good morning, no you are not overthinking this issue. I am planning on arriving Dec. 21st. I have not made travel reservvations as of yet. Trying to find out what do we have to do if anything for our sons/loved ones to return home with us. Don't want to book my flight and then have to book another one for my son and we have to travel separately. Maybe we will know a little more next week. Kim
Well from what he told me this morning they will help him with the arrangements for his flight and everything....and that he will be paying for it.
Hlovebug, that is exactly what my son told me, but asked me to pay for his flights because they had to pay for their uniforms and everything they received thus far.
A day early is prolly good.My son told me to make sure we were there a day early cuz there is lots of things you have to do before you can get on base.We are driving so we don't hae to worry about flight delays obviously but do have to worry bout the weather.Figure by the time we spend money on airfare and a rental might as well drive(my husband!!) I would rather fly but my mom is going and she has never flown.
