Thank you all so much for the gift suggestions. I'm thinking of getting him a camera and a few other things. His birthday is in January also.

Almost missed my son's call...Grrrrrrr Been sitting on the phones all weekend and we went brain dead and outside to blow the gutters before those rain/snow clouds opened up. Thank God he called back! 906 was given a 30 minute call. Screwed up bad the other night and had to do major PT and go to bed sweat dripping off of them. yuck! But ended the week on an up note and got 30 minutes. He sounded so good. Thinks this is the best thing he has done for himself! Still "I LOVE IT".

This was posted on 12/17/10 page....What to buy for Christmas
When in doubt, buy it in black!

NEX gift cards, although those are rather unexciting. You have to know the rules for their school, so it will be tough for this group as they won't have checked in yet and learned what they can or cannot have!

A watch, but it has to be within uniform regs.
Plain black backpack for their laptop.
Good headphones for whatever they play music on when they're relaxing in their room.
If they have a laptop, an external hard drive to store their data.
A nice throw or quilt, although they might have to stow it when not in use.
If they will be in Great Lakes: silk long johns, lightweight for under their uniform. Underarmor is good too, I hear.
Religious medal, small.
Laser engraved dog tags with a picture (good for GF/BF)
Picture pillow, small.
Travel mug, travel or camping set of utensils and a dish.
Black socks, warm ones.
Nice plain black leather wallet.
Good travel toiletry kit or roll up.
Digital camera.
Good lock for their locker, theft is rampant (sadly)

For Christmas gifts, that take up no room....what about a visa/mastercard gift card or maybe find out if their "favorite restaurant" is close to their A School base and get them a gift card for that? You could go on the A School groups on here and ask about the restaurants so they can check with their sailors and let you know what's nearby.

Hey, everyone. Anti M, a person with great Navy experience and great wisdom, has posted a discussion on the 12/17 group that I think you all would enjoy reading. It is called "Your Sailor" and is in the discussion forums at the top. All of us get great wisdom from those who have gone before us....she was in a Navy family when growing up, was Navy herself, is married to a retired Navy guy, and has a nephew in now. So...her wisdom is immense! You don't have to join the group to see the discussions, but if you decide to post on the discussion, you will need to join. Check it out!
