Kimber, my son is due for PIR on 12/17. I joined this group because there are many moms/wives/girlfriends that I have been friends with on here as well. We are all family here and keeping in touch. :)
I hope your son does graduate on 12/22 so you can get him home for the holidays. That would be so awesome! I'll be praying for that.

Suzi.. that's what I heard also about 1/3 of the people. But I also heard they do it in shifts so they use all SR's for practice. If they are in BC and they do not PIR before Christmas then they get Holiday all week (basically a break). They make them a nice dinner and they SR's get to relax. No they cannot take leave and come home if they are mid-way thru it. Once at BC you are there until you PIR out. Staff will be there..

Actually, I dont think that all of them get to leave. I am not sure how they decide who does what but my husband said that when the base is on stand down or whatever they operate with 1/3 of the usual amount of people.

I wonder what would happen if they stayed. Then the Navy would need staff there to feed them, look over them, clean up, etc. Or they would have to do it themselves. What about the ones in the middle of boot?
