Mary, yes, on the RTC FB page, it does say "they may request to be reimbursed for part of the travel costs." So, I guess it's up to the Navy on whether they will reimburse them or not. Hey, we can always hope, especially since the Navy won't be housing or feeding them for those couple of weeks, we will. lol

Whew! A lot to catch up on. I still don't have a letter or a definite PIR date, so I just feel like I'm in limbo! It stinks! Getting my kids home is no problem. It's just three hours up the highway. It's figuring out if he gets to come home at all!

My father and Jons father were in the service and our kids/husbands will have to pay initail cost and then they keep ALL receipts <- that just looks wrong. And when they get to their final desination ( A school) they file for reinbursement and need those then. They might not get the FULL reinbursement but they get back what it would of cost them to send them from Great Lakes to the A school and in turn the Sailor would of paid the difference.

I have been in contact with the Navy Public Affairs Office and they are saying that they will have leave after PIR, as well.

I just copied and pasted this statement from the RTC Facebook page:
Recruits graduating Dec. 17 & 22 will be granted leave and will be able to travel home. Those graduating Dec. 17 will have their leave expire on Dec. 28. Recruits graduating Dec. 22 will be granted leave that will expire Jan. 2. Recruits are responsible for paying their own way from RTC to their home and then pay for their way from home to their next command for A School. Once they are at their next command, they may request to be reimbursed for part of the travel costs.

The PAO is also going to find out if they fly in uniform or in civilian clothing. They can leave on the day of their PIR, but they will have to check out first. For your group, I believe that they have to report back on Jan. 2, but I will confirm that next week.

SRAshley, We are waiting to hear details of how to get our kids home from BC. From what I've been told, we have to incur the costs initially and when they get to their A school, they will be able to file a claim for reimbursement for whatever the difference would be if they had flown from BC to A school, as opposed to from home to A school. We are still waiting to hear if we can book their flights and will hopefully know that next week. I have been in contact with the Public Affairs Office, but this morning there is a graduation, so they weren't in the office to answer questions.
