Sorry I wasnt finished typing. I am a little embarrassed as to have to say all this but we do support her and are extermely proud of her and what she is doing. Hopefully we are not judged by not going.

I just read the post below and unfortunatley my husband and I will not be making the trip at my daughters request. She said that she is leaving as soon as the graduation is over and wants us to pay for her trip home and to A school. I am very sad about not going because I wanted to do the picture thing and the video and all the exciting things with her. But we decieded to go ahead and pay for her trips and give her the money that we saved for the trip.

Lynne: Hmmmm....I don't think the recruits can go to WalMart while in bc...however, I'm sure they would be delighted if they could! HA! At this point, ANYTHING of the outside world is an adventure! However, great idea for later when they are more mobile and have some freedom back!

Yes, I SO agree with Lynne, npsailormom. The ladies here are WONDERFUL in "shepherding" other's sailors when at PIR. Lynne is so right on with this....the stories on this site have brought tears in gratitude. The saddest one: A mom got a call on Monday morning before the Friday PIR. Her son said, "Mom, I didn't pass my run, won't be at PIR on Friday. Don't come." Now this happens often, but in most cases, they DO pass before PIR and are there (they get more chances and may even go through BattleStations with the next PIR group the night before PIR....meaning they will be in uniform, but in the stands after being up all night). Sooooo....I told this mom not to cancel travel yet....and explained why. She had a dilemma.....if she didn't cancel flights by Wed, she lost money. She waited as long as she could and finally with no more word, cancelled on Wed. The next morning, he called to say he passed his run and would be in BattleStations that night and at PIR the next day. Too late for her to do anything about more travel plans because of the $$ situation. My heart broke for them.....but to the rescue came the ladies on here! Although they couldn't get her and her family there for him, they DID take several pictures of him, gave him hugs and words from his family, and his big smiles in the pictures show how good that made him feel. WAY TO GO, LADIES!

So, please...if there is anyone on here who cannot make PIR...please let the ladies on here know. They will find your sailor....hopefully someone in the same division with your new sailor....but whatever it takes. Just post on here and let them know!

npsailormom..it is what it is...everyone is doing the best they can...and I am sure that there is a mom in this PIR group who is in your division who will volunteer to be a pseudo mom for you that day and find your son...give him a big hug...take a picture and report back...you know what ....that is what Navy for moms do for each other...so who is stepping up to the plate moms....

Here is my advice about getting money to a sailor...you can wire to their account from your bank which costs about 15.00 or you can go to any Walmart and wire money for like 11.00 and they can go to any Walmart in the US with their ID and pick it up...I think that is way cool...I know that because one of the gals in my PIR group got my son a computer that way when my son';s went kaput while he was on dog duty...lol...and couldn't leave the base!!

The boys who went Navy Fed. already have their bank cards.. got them 2 weeks ago. Wed. they will get their first check. I can already access Js Navy Fed account online and see how much is pending to deposit on the 1st.

NDG: If you can deposit directly into his account, that would be the best and safest way to get money to him. I was going to do that for my son (also Navy Fed) when he bought a car where he is stationed and needed his money put in there....there was not going to be a problem with me doing that, but I didn't because they were going to "hold" the check too long...so I had to make other arrangements. If you have a Navy Fed near you, I would think that is the best solution. Also, remember that he should have some money in there by now since he should be having his pay put in there at this point.

Google says it would take me 6 days 20 hours non stop walking to get to Great Lakes.. lol. I found that interesting!

It IS really expensive to go to PIR and it is a great trade off to be able to see him for a longer period of time later. Make sure to send him the money so that you can get the video of PIR. You can only get it if you purchase ahead of time.

Speaking of which, what is the easiest way to get money to our SRs? I was thinking about hunting down a Navy bank close to me to see if I am able to make a deposit directly into my son's account.

I was going through pictures of my husband and I. I came across one where we were being silly as goo... lol.. you can look at that pictures and just see the light in our eyes. See the happiness and love that we share. His smile could light a room and I miss that! 22 days! 22 days!
