Hello everyone,
I have a question. Me and my husband were married about a month ago and he is now at Basic, hopefully graduating Dec 22nd, 2010. So we are married, and I am considered as a dependent. He is going to A School in Pensacola in January after his liberty. So my question is this: Does anyone know what the rules are for living with dependents in A School? Is it possible for navy personnel to live on/off base with dependents, instead of in the barracks? I have heard many different things, but the most common response is that yes, dependents can live with navy personnel during A School, provided that it is longer than 6 months, and that their Commanding OIfficer approves a written request that they must send. Does anyone know if this is how it really works? I have also heard that it is best to move close to base and pay for an apartment out of your own pocket until the Navy Personnel is approved to live off-base with dependents. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Guess what ladies? Only 32 days left! I am litteraly counting down!
Best,
Megan = )

I believe you have to send a copy of the route you'll be taking. I didn't ask his bunkmate about this, however, I do recommended you check out the PIR group for 12/17. Pretty sure the info is there. ;)

What would I send as proof that we are driving him to A school?

Maggie- yes you have to send the itinerary as proof that he's really coming home.

If my son is flying home from GL for leave, then I need to send itinerary. We are going to drive him to his A school in Pensacola since we live in Florida.

From what I have read getting married during PIR weekend is a big nono. They are not allowed without permission and during PIR weekend that is only granted in very specific circumstances. Plus in a lot of state you have to have a marriage liscence which can take anwhere from one or two days to a whole month. My sailor got married during a school and had to ask permission. They are supposed to get a chit (written approval) to get married. And my sailors said you almost need one to sneeze lol. And even though she got married almost 3 months ago she had to get a chit to change her name and she just that approved this week. I hope this helps, it is just our experience. :-)
