My son is also ship 09 div 015. I'm so glad to find someone else. My son said he had some new friends, wouldn't it be great if they knew each other!
Where are you from Vita? I'm in AZ. Have you booked your travel for PIR yet? We haven't. I think we are going to wait a week or two to make sure his date doesn't change.
I'm in Texas outside of Austin. Where in AZ are you? We haven't booked anything yet either. We're waiting for the "Im a sailor" call. Do you know when that comes? Refundable airfare is almost double the price of regular!!
I'm a little confused by the 'I'm a sailor' call. I read that it happens during week 8 and it's the final step before graduation. My son is in the rush division so he's graduating in 6.5 weeks. I've read posts from people who say they were at work when they got the call, so I'm not sure how long it is from battlestations (if they pass, they become a sailor) and PIR. Maybe someone can answer that for us.

Now that I'm writing this, I'll go to chat and see if anyone knows...

Someone said they are in the last week of BC. I think airfare will probably be too expensive by then, as if it isn't now. I may wait until there are 2 weeks left before booking my flight. I'm worried that if I book now, he may get sick or fail a test or something will happen that will change his PIR date. What do you think?
I thought the sailor call was at week 4. I am so confused!! I feel like I need to have a study guide to learn all this Navy stuff! I think waiting till week 7 to get the tickets would be too expensive, especially since its right around Thanksgiving. 2-3 weeks before sounds about right. How did your son get in the rush division? What's his job? My son is in damage control. Is your son worried about the cold weather? We've always been in TX so my son thinks he's gonna freeze!
Most get a "I'm still alive" call at week 3/4..the "I'm a Sailor" call comes after Battlestations 21...sometime in the afternoon.
Start writing now and tell your rct to let you know ASAP if they are G&G and when their Battlestations are
I feel the same way... we talk with each other here and who knows, our boys may be friends and we don't even know it... Can't wait to get a letter...its maddening...I know no news is good news but OMG already!!! this is torture lol..
Hi Ryans mom! We live in AZ, but we moved here from NJ 4 years ago.

I will look into Southwest. That's a good plan. I, too, have only received the form letter, but it looks as though others in the different divisions, but same PIR date are beginning to receive letters. I hope I get one soon. I recieved my son's form letter on a Saturday after the it was too late to mail the 6 I had waiting to go out, so I had to wait until MONDAY! That was tough. So, I'm guessing he's getting my letters within the next day or 2.

Do you have twin boys? Good luck to both of them! God Bless.
Hi Ryans mom. My son and your son are in the same division. If you are going to book Southwest airlines, check on Tuesdays. Thats when they have the $99 fares. I have to wait for those beause there are 4 of us flying up there. Did you book your hotel yet?
I was able to use air mile credits for Southwest for this trip so I already booked. Although I am thinking about changing it because we were not landing until 6:30 which means we would likely miss all the meet and greets by the time we got there and checked in. I booked the Marriott Residence Inn, but I am going to keep watching for specials that might be better. Rate for Navy graduation is $79. I actually had a Marriott special signed up for the following weekend (the recruiter said count 9 weeks and that is the week I hit) for $69, but it is over now so I had to cancel that one and switched to the 1st weekend. I will watch for others. I am signed up for Marriott email specials as well. I have been watching Southwest specials for awhile and each week they seem to be slightly higher then the previous, but they may still come down again. Early December is not typically a busy travel time. If they get really cheap, I will probably buy a ticket and save the air mile credits. With both boys going through boot camp, training, and their first assignment, I see more plane flights in my future.
has anyone gotten a letter from their son??? All I've received so far is his form letter. :-(
