Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

What's good to do in Great Lakes/Chicago for the weekend with a Sailor
Now that the big day is almost here, I'm thinking...what are we going to do? It's going to be cold, thats a given..anybody with some good ideas of things to do while we are there?

We are hoping to go to the field museum and get some chicago pizza somewhere, I have a friend who lives in chicago and he suggested about 5 different places so I think we are just going to go to the one with the easiest parking, lol. Other then that we have not decided anything for sure because someone on here mentioned that we should let our recruit decide what they want to do, as they may not want to be around crowds and stuff. So I guess we are going to leave it up to him. I also heard the Navy Pier was nice. Just a few more days, yay!!!!

i actually found something on the Lincoln Park Zoo, they will have holiday lights and ice sculpting etc..and it's supposed to be free admission? My daughter loves zoos so??? but yeah..deff. some chicago pizza, i am originally from NY so wanna check out the "other side"...

My sister said that we have to go to Gino's pizza in downtown so we will try that. She also mentioned the navy pier.
Emily taking the metro is a great idea. My sister said parking in Chicago would cost a pretty penny.
I'm going to leave it up to Clayton as to what we do on Friday. -

Oh I was also told the window storefronts in Chicago at Christmas time was a must see! I doubt Clayton would want to do this but we will be there until Sunday evening so this is something we can do after the airport (and a nap) on Saturday.

i think we will also wait to see what she wants to do. one of her friends is in a school and will hang out with us on sat. He might have some good suggestions too. i think we might check out the lincoln park zoo..free admission and holiday deco. up, depending on the weather..dont mind the cold for short periods, might go up to the top of willis tower (formerly sears tower) the view should be awesome..great picture opps..just want to do stuff that we can still talk while we are doing it, i think we will all have larengitis once the weekend is over from talking so much.

The Navy Pier has a holiday event starting the weekend of the 3rd it looks fun. Also I hear Marshall Fields has great holiday displays in the windows.

All these ideas sound great EXCEPT that we will have 4 Grandparents with us and walking any kind of distance will be an issue. Any suggestions with that in mind, or, does the base have wheelchairs that we could use (2 or 3).

Denise, i know, my folks are going to be with us (grandparents of sailor and former sailors themselves) and we are trying to figure out what wont take too much walking. I am thinking the base wont have loaner wheelchairs for o/s of the base. My folks are pretty mobile so i haven't researched it much but you might try contacting some of the same civic org. that sponsored our kids for thanksgiving, like the Elks, Moose, USO, etc. might be worth a trip on Google..???

My son told me on Sunday that he wants to go eat at a nice restaurant (his treat!) and have steak and shrimp! Then all he wants to do is go back to the hotel and lounge. He said he would love to go into Chicago but doesn't want to waste 2 hours by driving there and back. Works for me! :)

was at PIR last wed and will be back again for another on 12-3. last week we did the gurnee mills mall - about 20 minutes from the base, the movies (the new Harry Potter came out during BC) and dinners out. The rest of the time my Sailor just wanted to lounge and hang out and catch up on things. if you are staying in Waukegan, there are some chain restaurants all within a 15-20 minute radius---olive garden, chilis, pf changs, outback, lone star, etc... as well as some local places that were ok too. lots of fast food places and for those of us from the east coast --- no chick fil A or WaWas. LOL. : )

chicago pizza is kinda gross.. ny pizza is yummy! I say skip the bland gooooy deep dish & try a chicago style hotdog! I'm thinking we might go to the planetarium, people watch at the nearby mall, or maybe drive downtown chicago & ride the elevators to the top of 100+ story skyscrapers. It snowed today at the Great Lakes, so make sure to dress warmer than expected! The high is 32 degrees!

not lookin to spend that much money, i'm likin the way navywife'E ship9div16 PIR 12/3 is thinkin.. a good hot dog and a walk around the city, view from the top... leisure time where we can talk and catch up... what ever we do, it will be a good trip...
