I got two letters today. One was a survey that he filled out and returned. As of Nov. 7th his div was on week 4-2. So, I guess they are going through hell week THIS week. He said he never got to call me because he was under general anesthesia. But he is doing good. In his survey he said his closest buddies were from CA, Arlington, TX, Manhattan, and Colorado. Some favorite quotes are: "You guys look like a bag of smashed ass", "You guys look like soup sandwich", "Swim fishie swim". His job will be E3, Nuke, ET (electronic tech). He sounded more upbeat although his mouth really hurts. :( I can't believe he is having to have all this oral surgery?!

Yes, Molly. I agree with Julie. Sounds like he may have opened a Navy Fed acct there? Mine did that.

Lynn, What a great idea for the name tags. I was trying to think up a way to get pictures on them...

Received a letter yesterday Nov. 9th. Said all is going well. He said he can't wait to show me how to fold, iron, and shine toilets. Said they have 82 people now in their division. They have started their weapons training and have Live Fire on 11/12( I am guessing that is the final test for weapons) he says that should be fun and hopes to get a ribbon for sharp shooter. He said they had Marlin Spike a basic line throwing, knot tying and other things on 11/5. He said he made a 4.3 of 5.0 on written test and was excited about that. Everything seems to be going good for his division. Now I am thinking I need a phone call.

Natesmom...I read your posts and they really touched myheart. i am a single mom with one son...now a sailor...he PIR'd Friday...I miss him. He was gone for my birthday in October...and it wasn't the same. he left me a card...but it wasn't the same. I too sat by the phone, praying it would ring - it didn't. But, when I saw his face at PIR and felt his arms around me....alll that pain quiickly vainished...he is a young man now! You know what...he bought me dinner, he took my arm, he looked out for me...he told me..."you have cared for me all my life and now mom it's my turn...whatever you need, I'm here." What's a mom to do? I just sobbed....so hang in there...he'll be back...different...but you will have many years ahead of you...many memories to make...and many moments to share...this but a blip in time!!

I know the Ramada hands out nametags BUT here is what I did that was fun...I took everyones picture and name that sad they were coming to the meet and greet and glued it to a name tag... with the saying This is me!!! and then made several more for the family members coming with them...so we knew who belonged to who...it was a big hit...a little time consuming but so worth it...everyone quickly figured out who everyone was because really we knew everyone by their icon pictures and names which may or may not be different than their real names...lol just an idea

What a difficult decision you have had to make ME...but there is nothing he can do right now and the added stress would be so difficult...he will probably have very mixed feelings about not knowing...try and get everything you can about what happened and see if perhaps the service is being video or anything or even if perhaps they would allow you to do that...this might help him with the grieving process....another thing you might do is write to him about how you feel about what is going on but don't send him the letters and then when you do sit down to tell him you can give that to him as well so that as he processes this difficult experience he will be able to understand the struggles you experienced in trying to decide what to do and how you came to your decision...I am so sorry that he will have to learn this information after PIR....

If you got a pin number you must of requested a bank card....it either came first or will follow in a day or two...they are always sent separately...you then take it to an ATM machine and activate the card by using the pin number...

Hi all...I added a new Meet & Greet for our PIR under the events tab at the top of this page. Tabbi posted the previous event but it was a little confusing since it said ship 9/div 10. The M&G is for ALL family members/loved ones of sailors graduating 12/3/10. Please click on the EVENTS tab above and scroll to find the PIR 12/3/10 Meet & Greet. You can rsvp there.
