Ladies - anyone....: ) i am reading in your posts about adopting a Sailor for Thanksgiving. How does this work and if someone had a recruit that is graduating Thanksgiving week, are they able to adopt a Sailor from the PIR group of 12/3 if they will be in Great Lakes? Any info would be greatly appreciated as this situation applies to me and I have 2 Sailors from the 12/3 PIR date that I could adopt when I am in GL for Thanksgiving at my son's PIR on 11/24. Thank you for any and all help! : )

QT4JLM/Dawn: The payee on the check should be Navy Exchange if you feel better sending that written on it for the pictures.

I got a letter from Chandler! 5 pages! Took him 3 days to do it but hey that's ok! He sound so mature! He seems to be pushing himself and really loving it! He said they wake up to screaming each day and you have about 94 people running around trying to get ready! Sounds like boot camp to me!! So happy he wrote!!

Awww I am so sorry song258. But you know these things happen and it could turn into a very good thing for her. I am not sure but I think the SR's in that group get leave for Christmas. :-) I wish her the best and I am sure it will all turn out okay.

Hi all. I'll be leaving the PIR 12/3/10 group. I got a call (phone message, actually) yesterday from my niece. She's been set back two weeks to PIR on 12/17/10. She sounded forlorn and didn't explain what had happened. I'm sure I'll hear more in a letter. It's been great being part of this group. Best wishes to all of you and your children/grandchildren/spouses/significant others, etc.

labmom- I think that is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. You are so sweet.

CJ's mom- That will still give you plenty of time. If we are not friends yet send me a friend request and I will send you the info and you can go ahead and send your order in. I will have them ready to mail by the time you get paid :-) And you can pay me through PayPal if you like.

Can you guys believe that they are calling for SNOW here tomorrow? I live in the South (NC).... My sailor is so excited; the local ski resorts are making snow tonight and she wants to come home and go snow boarding lol.

One more thing... Did you know that there is a ribbon sailors can earn for doing volunteer work? My sailor has been a cheerleader every year since she was 2 yrs old lol. That means 18 years for her. She found a cheer gym that is for special needs kids. They are looking for cheer partners for these kids and she is going to see if she can sign up for that. How rewarding that will be for her. She makes me so proud!!!!! :-)

Anyone out there have a son named Tyler from Calif who is on Ship 9 Div 15? In box me if you do. Looks like we will be adopting your son for Thanksgiving.

Happy Thursday everyone! I received an adopt a Sailor request from my son yesterday! I have heard this program mentioned a few times on this website but had no clue what it was. Evidently my son and a buddy from his ship and div will be granted leave for the day of Thanksgiving! How did I not know about this sooner?? Do any of you know about this program? I feel so stupid no knowing what to expect.
