Have all of you made your fligth arrangements? I was told to wait for the letter to come verifying they will graduate but it's getting so close i hate to wait to long.

Yes diannep... I understand completely with what your saying. My son did everything imaginable to prepare himself physically for BC. But nothing could prepare them for the mental part of it. He also stated to me in his letter "N4M's could not prepare you for what they do to your kids here". And honestly, I didn't feel fear from that statement... I felt reality of BC. I understand they have to break them down, to build them up, and I also know as a mom, it's the hardest thing to imagine about what they are going through! What i stay focused on when my worry gets the best of me is the end result. And that is what I state to him in every letter- "this is temporary". We need to constantly remind them, and ourselves. Stay strong, and focus on 12/03. And how proud we are all going to be to see our SAILORS!

lizziesmom: Remember, not only are they away from home, they have little/no contact...certainly not when they NEED it in our eyes. They are with tons of others, from all different backgrounds and experiences, and all have brought their "baggage" with them into bc. They are told when to do everything...and if they don't do it JUST RIGHT, they are not just corrected, but yelled at and embarrassed. All hard on us moms...until we understand the goal. The RDC's are their supporters...but they don't see that right now....by PIR time, the recruits "get it" and understand why the RDC's had to be this way...the breaking down process to build back up.

Before my son signed up, he talked to an Army friend who was getting ready to retire...he told my son "they get the civilian out of you." That sounds pretty harsh, but we know what he meant. They are building sailors here...to protect/serve our country through their teamwork and dedication. That is not an easy "fleet" to build...and comes with many bumps and bruises. Your daughter is "in the fire" right now....but she won't stay there...she will move forward....a little at a time. Before my son left last year, we talked about this happening...that he would be yelled at, and it would be really uncomfortable and downright miserable. But we talked about the reason why...and although he still struggled with this when it happened, he "got it" and focused on the end. He would falter at times, but was shocked once when I thought maybe he didn't want to BE a sailor during one of his calls. He said, "Mom, Do you think I don't want to make it and become a sailor? Yes, I WILL make it." Of course, I felt ashamed that I had misread what he was saying...guess he was just venting!
So hang in there....this too shall pass.....

Thanks SO much diannep.......I just have to be reminded of that sometimes. I just had NO idea she would be that homesick when she has been so strong and never broke down once see she told us she joined. Guessing that maybe she didnt get those feelings and emotions out before and they are all coming now. She has mad some awesome friends though and that seems to help a lot!!

Hello everyone... this is my first post here. My son's PIR date is 12/3/10. Did anyone else receive a call from their son/daughter last Friday 10/29? I was just wondering...

...good and bad days...yep....that would be the case at boot camp! Actually, isn't that the case in life too???? Ups and downs....the "up" time is coming!
Comment by diannep on November 2, 2010 at 9:35pm
lizziesmom: Ok this group has about 2 weeks before they really "turn the corner" and PIR is in their sights. They realize then they will make it...and they start "heading for the finish line." There is such a difference then in the tones of their letters and the phone calls. So hang in there because it won't be long before yours and her tears will be replaced by the biggest grins you have every seen!
