For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by 2NavyKids on December 22, 2010 at 4:21pm: Many thanks, ladies, for your input. I've since talked to my agent, and she has taken both kids off our policies. Since the cars will remain insured in my husband's and my names, the kids can come home on leave, drive the cars, and still be insured. Easy enough solution.

Comment by chandlersmom on December 22, 2010 at 2:10pm: Chandler misses his navy life and structure. Is anyone else experiencing this with your sailors? I have had to work so he has been pretty bored. He and his dad will hang out today and he has been with his friends a bit.

Comment by Lou2 on December 22, 2010 at 1:50pm: There is also something call "no car" insurance or something like that. It's my understanding that it's pretty inexpensive. We sold Nate's car in September before he went to bc. He is home now, but will go back to MS, then onto Gaum. Not sure what he will do about transportation over there or if it is even a concern.

Comment by Aggie08Mom (ship 02,div. 903) on December 22, 2010 at 12:52pm: 2NavyKids, I haven't done anything about my son's insurance this time around because he's planning on driving his car back to Charleston. When he was in college though, he didn't have a car on campus and my agent was able to take him off the policy for his car and just put it in my name, which made the premiums way less.

Comment by 2NavyKids on December 22, 2010 at 11:34am: I have a question to the group about car insurance since our two sailor kids' payments come due in January. Our new sailor daughter (PIR 8/20/10) is in Japan with no need of a car, and our son that graduated 12/3/10 will be in Charleston and doesn't anticipate he'll need a car. How then, are they insured for when they are home on leave? How are other parents/spouses handling this issue? Your comments are appreciated.

Comment by momclf (ship03 div 018) on December 21, 2010 at 12:52am: My sailor is coming home on Thursday I can hardly sit still waiting. His dog is going to be sooo excited to seem him too, lol. I am glad to get him home this year for Christmas, who knows what the next 5 years will be like, so I will cherish this one. For the families that are unable to spend the holiday with their loved one, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Have a wonderful Christmas all.

I ordered Nate's scarves Saturday night and they should be here before Christmas. This is without paying for special shipping. I looked everywhere locally but could not find a single pure white scarf.
