Got the letter!!!! My heart was fluttering and I had a hard time catching my breath while trying to read it to his little brother. Geez - maybe I can calm down now and the 1st real letter won't given me palpitations . . . maybe it will.
The box -- I washed everything except the hoody he wore -- thought I might be a complete weirdo sniffing it - till I read on here on some of yall did the same thing! thank goodness! Oh yeah - we are Ship 9, Div 16.

Rebecca: Is your son staying at GL for A School? If he is GradNGo from there, that will be a good thing because he just MIGHT get overnight liberty with you after he moves over there post-PIR. I believe they are told if they are GradNGo about 3-4 weeks before PIR, but that may vary in each division. My son told me after we had made our reservations (for the 2nd time since he was asmoed a week) and it wasn't until 3 weeks before PIR. We decided to make a mini vacation out of the extra time we had without our sailor rather than change again.

He most likely will not know if he is GradNGo for his 1st call home...unless that doesn't come for a few more weeks, and I hope for your sake that he calls before then!

Suggestion: Don't know if Southwest or Air Tran flies from where you are, but I'm hearing that they offer great rates and their "change" fee is not as high as some of the others. So you may want to check out those airlines and if you get a good deal, and they have a rather small change fee, then it may not be too bad. There was a poor woman in the last PIR group who flew from CA to Chicago for her recruit's PIR. When she landed in Chicago, she got the call that he had not graduated because of an illness and she couldn't see him. My heart broke for her....she plans to come back when he can graduate.
It is a bit of a guessing game when making the reservations....but it really is cheaper to get nonrefundable tickets with a change fee than it is refundable as they suggest...in most cases. I booked my flights about 4 weeks before his PIR. Same flights that I had booked before he was asmoed....but this time, they were cheaper so it was like my change fee was cut in half.

I got my son's form letter yesterday. It really lifted my spirits to hear from him and see that is he doing well. After reading the brochures and going to the site they posted in the form letter, I'm afraid to make reservations until I talk to Ben. Does anyone know if he will know by the time he gets to call home the first time what his ship and go assignment will be? He will be doing technical training, so I have a feeling I might have to wait for 5 hours for him to check in at his next post before he can take liberty. What I do not know is if he will have liberty on Sunday too. I hope someone has experience with this situation who can help me. Thanks. Rebecca

Tabbi: On the chatroom box, contact one of the group creators of other sites that have them. Mary K 949, creator of the PIR 10/29 group, has one. I'm sure she will help you get one back! Keep up the good work on this group....doing a great job!

I shared this with another group and thought you all mike like it as well.....If anyone runs out of ideas on what to write about and your SR has a pet you can write a letter from your pet. I sent one to my sailor from her cat. He told her that since she left he had been put on a crash diet unwillingly and he was not happy about it. he told her that we were rationing his food and she needed to hurry up with whatever she was doing. He didn't see how her leaving to work at "boots camp" could be more important that him getting fed all the food he wants. (Boots is our neighbors cat lol) She loved the letter and said she laughed so hard that all the girls in her div wanted to know what the heck was in that letter. I have seen some parents put a sign around their pets neck that said I Miss You and they took a pic of it and sent it to their sailor. :-)
