for
~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

RockinR: I too am from S. FL and my son had a Feb PIR almost 6 yrs ago. Snow everywhere. Roads kept clear though. I was worried too but not an issue for us. I would suggest a car. I rented an SUV....just felt better in that. We only had more flurries when we were there---no hard snow. If you get closer to the time and it looks like it will be stormy weather with lots of snow coming down, you can always cancel the car and call Sarge to use his shuttle/taxi service 847 212 0246. It is more economical to rent a car if you can swing it! If you book your flights on Southwest out of Ft Lauderdale, into either Milwaukee WI (45 min drive to GL) or Chicago Midway (hour+ drive depending on traffic), Southwest will offer you a discounted rental car discount code. They also have no change fee (if your SR is delayed...mine was!) and 2 bags check for free.
Good Morning All!
We are flying in for PIR. What's everyone's opinion on car rental vs taxi service? I am from south Florida and have never driven in snow.
Swiffer - when I talked with my husband Saturday (he's in DIV 907 - ship staff), he said that as of then, they would most likely be in 12/4 PIR and would be in 12/11 PIR.
My son is heading to Pensacola Florida for A school. He thinks he will be there for about 5 months. He made friends with a kid nicknamed RED, is RED's parent out there??
Sorry Swiffer, My spellchecker keeps changing your name to Swifter.
Swifter, Dec. 11th PIR is the one before the 31st. That's great about your son marching. I hope to meet you on the 31st. Our sons PIR.
NervousNellie, I just saw your post. I hope you signed up for the Sarge meet and greet and we can meet there.
When we talked to our son Sat., he said he is in an honor guard which is training to march for a PIR previous to his on 12/31. Does anyone know how to find out which date PIR that group may be presenting in, as we were hoping to watch that PIR online.
sourpatchkid: So so sorry for the loss of your father-in-law. I hope that your husband can turn his grief over this into determination to get through and do well, knowing that his dad will always be "with him" and is cheering him on! Prayers for all of you.
